Depravity - Silence of the Centuries Ep (1993)

1. Silence of The Centuries
2. Sleepy Ocean
3. Remasquerade
4. Phantasmagoria
5. Vacuum of Thoughts

Origin - Finland
Style - Death Metal

" Depravity was a Finnish Death metal band formed 1990 in Pirkkala (Little town near Tampere). In 1991 they released their first untitled demo and later in the same year “Galvanizer” demo. In 1992 They were able to sign to the French Adipocere Records and released a 7″ vinyl EP “Remasquerade”‘92. The next year the band released a self-released demo, titled “Phantasmagoria” and EP “Silence of the Centuries”‘93 through Adipocere Records. After this, The Band unfortunately broke up. "

" This E.P. is one of my all time favorites.... Depravity play heavy, soul crushing Death Metal with just the right amount of melody tossed in, Repetitive riffs that let you get into the track before tasteful early 90s death metal solos enter the fray "

" It is the atmosphere that makes this record so good....Dark, Eerie, haunting death metal in the Cemetery Vein........Highly recommended !

Origin - Finland
Style - Death Metal

" Purtenance was a Finnish old school death metal band that existed from 1990 till 1994 and had that Swedish sound to them but had that extra unique touch by adding some doomy atmosphere to the songs. They released one demo under their first name Purtenance Avulsion but they shortened their name rather quickly to just Purtenance. With this demo they were able to catch a deal with Drowned Productions from Spain, a division from Hard Vinyl Records. Under their banner they released one 7 " EP in the beginning of 1992 later that year a debut full-length album was releasd called "Member Of Immortal Damnation". "

" This is a classic example of Death metal mixed with a doomy atmosphere and on the Legendary "Drowned Productions"......This goes for a $100 bucks on ebay !

11. Ceremony of Doom
12. Psychopath
13. Despair
14. Twilight in the Wilderness
15. That Day Will Come
16. A Pleasant Surprise
17. The Island (Of Fear)

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death/Doom Metal

" Tracks one through four are from the Ceremony of Doom demo (1991) (trackthree is number four on the vinyl). Five through eight are from theSuffering demo (1991) (track seven is fifth on the vinyl). Nine and 10(one and two on vinyl) are from the Doomed single (1992). Track 11 (threeon vinyl) is previously unreleased. Twelve through 17 (six through 11 on vinyl)are from the unreleased Twilight in the Wilderness album (recorded inAugust 1992) "

" Eternal Darkness are an exceedingly good Swedish death/doom band that were tragically overlooked in the early 90s, and Total Death, their discography CD that was released in 2006, went pretty much unnoticed as well. On this single disc you will find their first couple of demos originally released on cassette, a vinyl single, an unreleased track, and a short album that never saw the light of day "

" Musically, you can expect similar severely downcast, despondent plodding taking place but in an old fashioned Swedish/Finnish death metal context. It doesn't remain slow-paced throughout as it tends to pick up speed, taking lurching mid-paced strides to robust drum beats, but invariably reverting to what it seems most comfortable doing – playing rich, gloomy and , despair-ridden tunes in the safety of thick, suffocating darkness. By constantly providing variations, they don't allow their speed handicap to turn their music into a one-dimensional drab affair. Switching from Hellhammer/Winter vibe to something that sounds as if lifted from an Autopsy album, Eternal Darkness also employ the highly effective Scandinavian harmonies and melodic breaks that evoke pity rather than inspire hope. The intro/opening songs in particular are most apt to do that, sometimes using keyboards to achieve the effect "

" Not only are Eternal Darkness one of the earliest bands playing in this style, but they are also convincing and fucking good at it. Playing a superb blend of dread-inducing doom and old Scandinavian death metal with a palpable, dark and eerie atmosphere....All in all, an essential release.....

Revocation - Summon The Spawn (Ep) 2006

1. Summon The Spawn
2. Unattained
3. Suffer These Wounds

Origin - USA
Style - Technical Death/Thrash Metal

" As far as severely under appreciated New England bands are concerned, Boston’s Revocation are at the very top of the list. Between their three releases as Cryptic Warning and this demo, their first with the new name, the young trio have improved upon their technical death/thrash attack to the point of near perfection. The title track wastes no time with formalities before launching into some seriously twisted swirling riffs with frantic stop-start patterns while still retaining a catchy groove. “Unattained” speeds things up a bit and “Suffer These Wounds” features some killer classic heavy metal leads. The production is top-notch, especially for a demo, and this is a must-listen from a great up and coming band "

" If you have not heard their full-length "Empire Of The Obscene"....I strongly suggest you do so !....One of the top albums from 2008 !...Believe Me...

I usually have to get music like this from Poland,Sweden....Not From my home country......I am excited about Revocation's Potential !..And so should you...

3. March of Insurrection
4. My Bleeding Tears
5. Floating
6. A Velvet Creation
7. Into the Cosmic Sphere
8. Once My Eye Moved Mountains
9. Wounded and Alone (Bonus Track)
10. The Predictable End (Bonus Track)
11. The View (Bonus Track)

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" With "A Velvet Creation", Eucharist create unusually eerie and ominous death metal with a great sense of melody and rhythm. The album possesses a sense of swirling colours, due to its chaotic structure both vertically and horizontally "

" The harmonic interplay between the guitars is frankly awesome - in that respect the band is almost unrivaled. The bass adds real depth to the melodies, and sounds somewhat jazzy at times (in a good way). Eucharist are clearly technically superb, and although the drum-production leaves a bit to be desired (the snare sounds a bit too 'slappy'), the drumming itself is excellent - giving the recording life while not being too 'showy'. I'd also like to praise the acoustic intro to "Greeting Immortality", which I find to be very beautiful and apt. The vocals are generally fitting high-pitched growls "

" Truly one of my favorites from the era......And if it had a big production...could have been a monster ! This version has all the bonus tracks that Eucharist did for samplers and compilations added by me "

Enjoy a brilliant piece of music from a largely unknown and under appreciated band !

" One and only full length from Uncanny....This band contained a whos-who of swedish death..such bands as Interment,Fulmination,Katatonia, Centinex,October Tide etc. "

" The music was not typical Swede death for the time but edges into tech death territory but the album is so great (and so woefully obscure) that I have to recommend it at every opportunity "

08. Grapes of Wrath
09. Parasite
10. Day of the Dog
11. Low Life
12. The Blackest of Fawns

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death Metal

" This was the fifth release from long time veterans Konkhra "

" The weight and might of this album simply cannot be disputed, and it's nice to remind ourselves that there is yet another band out there who can do a damn good job of fusing thrash and death metal, especially with “Hellhound on My Trail” and “Day of the Dog.” The short staccato blasts of rhythm guitar are very reminiscent of the technique employed by The Haunted and Dew Scented "

" Reality Check certainly is an improvement compared to Weed out the Weak and Come down Cold. Konkhra are back in business with their groovy death thrashy music. Reality Check is a war themed album, and the cover art shows a burning city. War seems to be a popular theme for metal albums these days. The album was recorded in Lundemark's own Starstruck Studios, and has an overall good production "

4. Infants' Graves
5. Weep No More
6. Flame of the Panzerchrist
7. Lumps of Rotting Clay
8. War in the North
9. The Spirit of Soldiers

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death/Black Metal

" Bludgeoning, brutal, blistering and blackened, Battalion Beast, the fifth album from one of Denmark’s more consistent and underrated bands, is an exercise in no nonsense death metal savagery "

" The band is still delivering harsh, fast and brutal death metal, though this time around, like it was the case with the third album "Soul Collector", the band has mixed in a good deal of black metal elements, even more this time around, than it has been the case before, and that does not make the music any weaker. It is especially in the riffing, the black metal elements are most evident, fast, cold, melodic and disharmonic riffs paint a lot of the atmosphere, a cold, dark and nihilistic atmosphere....The vocals from Bo Summer are also well done, we get the, in the case of Panzerchrist, normal dark guttural growl and a more black metal inspired scream, both works very good and adds brutality, evil and sickness to the output "

" The drumming delivered by Reno Kiilerich is as expected from him, fast and relentless, though still displaying a good ear for technical and atmospherically details...Holy Shit this guy is fast !!.......This album fused the best of Brutal Death Metal with the cold and furious black metal riffing to make it one of the top albums in 2006 !

You cannot go wrong with this record !

16. Into The Eye Of The Storm
17. Killing For Recreation
18. Malevolent Rapture
19. Bleed For Me
20. Legion Of The Damned

Origin - Netherlands
Style - Thrash Metal

" So Here it is the 4th full length from the dutch thrashers "

" Tracks 12-20 are live tracks...."

" This band is being hyped as the next big thing !........I am not sure about that, But they do make some god-damn catchy thrash metal....What to expect? Well, nothing new, really, just better than the last stuff they did. On Cult Of The Dead you will find a load of extremely fast parts that have been put together as tight as hell "

" The raw edges of thrash metal are still present in the sound. The guitars do not slide but they tear. This album is recorded in just three weeks, thus this product may be considered an achievement of great order.....Catchy rhythms and typical pounding thrash parts make this album addictive. But that is not the only reason; the songs consist of multiple layers. Every turn, new facts and items appear, underlining the fact these guys are craftsmen. Considering this, it is not that this is a tame album. It is as brutal as the previous albums, but the songs are slightly more complicated and sophisticated "

Not a perfect album by any sense of the word......But it will keep the thrashers out there happy !

Decomposed - Hope Finally Died... (1993)

1. Inscriptions
2. Taste The Dying
3. Falling Apart
4. At Rest
5. Instrumental
6. Procession (Of The Undertakers)
7. (Forever) Lying In State

Origin - United Kingdom
Style - Doom/Death Metal

" One and only full length from Croydons own Decomposed "

" Doom/Death Metal started as Death Metal slowed down and given a different sound and feel...Such bands as Winter played a big part in this fusion of styles...Later Anathema,Katatonia,My Dying Bride Etc. made this style more prominent and popular. Decomposed were a short-lived band from the early 90s, and belong to the transient stage of death/doom, before the aforementioned evolution had been completed; in this respect, they are very much still a death metal band "

" As a death metal album, Hope Finally Dies… is excellent; it remains constantly inventive, not once stagnating or becoming repetitive. Its blend of solid death metal riffing and down-tempo face pummeling is fantastic; a hint of melody is apparent in the doom-inspired sections, but this does not in any way detract from the album’s forcefulness. Lead guitars are very prominent, in stark contrast to the usual doom aesthetic, but Decomposed pull it off with a strong sense of grace and finesse, as can be seen on ‘At Rest’. The solos are very cohesive with the album’s sound, and are not overplayed – the guitarist is seemingly modest, opting out of mindless wankery and avoiding the slippery slope of intangible clutter. What results is an album that is played from the heart and not from the head "

A Forgotten Classic.......Highly recommended !

" Old-School Thrash metal is what Suicidal Angels is all about on this their 2006 release 'Armies Of Hell' "

" Suicidal Angels starts an intense thrashing in the first song titled "Crematory", and a listener is thrown straight to the ´80s period of Thrash Metal where bands from Slayer to Kreator ruled these most savage and merciless musical territories of this particular genre. Everything in "Crematory" reeks from some of the best moments that were churned out and captured in the 80s´ era of Thrash Metal. 3. Flight of the Titan
4. The Clans
5. Thrash 'em All
6. Gods Of Silver
7. Stolen Souls
8. Screamer
9. Back To The Cave
10. Dying Sun

Origin - France
Style - Death/Thrash Metal

" This band started out as a death-metal band directed towards the melodic scene, this band comes from France and was created in 1995. This band is called Yykoon, but this band is not like other extreme-metal bands, these guys has changed their sound from album to album and sometimes the changes has been pretty radical. The band mixes music styles like black, death and thrash-metal, and with these genres forged into one they have come a long way in their career. They also use dual vocal styles, one calm and melodic voice and a deep growling vocal style, this combination turns out to be very lethal with their melodic, heavy and catchy sound "

" Dying Sun is much more “metal” than the predecessor (Oniric Transition). The guitars improved dramatically, both in soloing and riff work. This time around, I feel everything I need is here and being executed with taste and accuracy. The lead work is excellent, being melodic, well structured and memorable. As for the riffs, the band finally started showing their ability to write some fresh stuff mixing up some the heaviness and melody"

" This album appears to have a platform of some sort of thrash and progressive-metal foundation, and on top of that there is a death and black-metal based construction. The album contains alot of melodic moments, heavy and catchy thrash-based formulas....Again..Alot of clean choruses ,but they are done well...and the growling is ok "

Merciless - The Awakening (1990)

1. Pure Hate
2. Souls of the Dead
3. The Awakening
4. Dreadful Fate
5. Realm of the Dark
6. Dying World
7. Bestial Death
8. Denied Birth

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death/Thrash Metal

" The first release on Deathlike Silence Productions run by Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, "The Awakening" is all of the power of 1980s thrashing speed metal with the darkest heart and clearest language of blackness to be found at the time. Masters of mood and darkened chaotic riff lexicon unleashing, Merciless wrought a classic from the raw elements of a deluge to come "

" High on the noxious fumes of the Possessed, early Death ('Denied Birth' in particular could easily have sat comfortably on 'Scream Bloody Gore'), early Sodom and huge swathes of embryonic Slayer, Merciless rarely take their foot off of your throat for the entire album (apart from to internalize your nose with a sledgehammer like blow with punchy, Slayer-esque dark harmonies, which lead directly back into the mosh-friendly, neck-achingly turbulent riffage). High paced, frenetic death/thrash is the order of the day, and my... if you can listen to this without at least banging that head at least once, well, there must be something wrong with you. All in all, this album is steeped in a life-affirming old school nature, which just can't be touched. When this aforementioned feeling is coupled with some of the most lethal riffs ever to have been struck from a Swedish guitar, you know you're in for some proper metal insanity......"

Truly One of the all-time classics....A band that many over-looked....

02 Arcanum
03 Black chapel
04 Ebola
05 Among the beasts & ancient slumber
06 Life Extinct
07 Tabula Rasa
08 Hell above
09 Bane Appetite
10 The infernal voyage

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Swedish Deathmetal bands have always been in the top of the old-school Deathmetal scene. Bans like Dismember, Entombed and Unleashed are supposed to be known by any self-respecting Deathmetal fan. Although many mouths whisper that the old-school Deathmetal scene is being taken over by the youngsters with their experimental forms of Deathmetal, it has constantly been proven that the old-school underground Deathmetal scene is alive, kicking and growing. Nominon, who are also from Sweden, are one of those living examples. Dating since the beginning of the 90’s, Nominon has been paving the road for almost two decades now..."

" This is their latest full length...And what a crusher it is !... The old-school fans will definitely enjoy this release because it holds both the brutality seen in the newer bands and the fast parts excellent for the best mosh-pits "

" Fans of the various bands given above should definitely try to get their hands on this album because they will certainly see that this is a valuable addition to their collection......"

Deformity - Repulsions of War (Demo) (1992)

1. In Fear
2. Into Darkness
3. Psychologic Death
4. Repulsions of War
5. The End

Origin - Sweden

Style - Death Metal

" Deformity was a Swedish death metal band that formed in early 1991. In September they entered the Twilight Studio to record their first three song demo which contained the songs "The Way I Feel", "Shit For Brains" and "Death Stands Before Me". In February 1992 they returned to the same studio to record their second demo which contained the four songs "In Fear", "Into Darkness", "Psychologic Death" and "Repulsions Of War". In the summer of 1992 they recruited a new guitarist named Harry Virtanen since their original guitarist Kenny had left the band a few weeks before the recording of the second demo. In August they entered the Rolling Rock studio to record a third demo entitled "Sickly Obsessed" with six songs on it. The response to it was very good from both fanzines and fans all over the world. They continued writing lots of new material and also recorded two songs for compilation albums ("Sometimes Death Is Better" from Shiver Records and "Dark Frost" from Hellfire Records). In 1994 they recorded a promo with more doomy material than before. The band probably broke up some time after that "

" This is the 2nd demo of old-school death metal with some melodies...."

This band was never signed..But Still are part of ancient history !.....Enjoy...

Darkcreed - Dark Regions {Ep} (2008)

1. Sinner Mind
2. Hell To Reborn
3. The Unnamed Holy Fake
4. Encoffined
5. Dark Regions
6. Deathless Ones

Origin - Mexico
Style - Death Metal

" Darkcreed are not new in the scene, they almost count 14 years of presence and - except from this disc - they had released two demo tapes, "In The Blackest Eyes" in 1996 and "Spiritual Blindness" in 1999. This debut was recorded in Mexico and Sweden....Old-School Sweden being the main influence "

" The six tracks on this Ep are straight forward, obviously influenced by the Swedish death metal movement of the ‘90s. Do not expect anything fancy, just Groovy , Non-Technical, Mid Tempo Filthy Death Metal....Not a blast in sight folks ! "

" Hearing this for the first time...I immediately thought of early Entombed, Grave and Dismember.....So that can't be all that bad ...can it? If you are looking for an original band, pass this one. If you are looking for a nice old school death metal record, I would recommend to check this out for sure....Pretty Fucken cool !

5. Gates of Utumno
6. Unbound
7. Ravishing and Possessed
8. Diabolic Consumption
9. Cast from Hell
10. Sigil of Baphomet
11. The Lurker

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death Metal

" After a long break, Danish death metallers Thorium are back with the potent ’Feral Creation’....Their third release and first for Mighty Music "

" The music is still a blend of Swedish and American death metal, but in many ways it sounds more worked through than before. The Danes have been able to create a versatile and varied effort....To make it all complete the band adds a bit of a groove and some solos along the way. It doesn't hurt either that the music is quite catchy and easy to digest "

" Feral Creation was recorded at Berno Studio. Jacob Hansen later mixed the effort. The result is a meaty and clear production. It fits the music perfect as none of the details seem to vanish. And while nothing here is breathtaking Or Innovative.... Feral Creation is a dosage of high octane death metal that should appeal to most fans of the genre "

P.S. A cool Dan Seagrave cover too....

" 4th full length from Krakow, Polands Virgin Snatch "

" Virgin Snatch contains members of other prominent bands such as Vader, Sceptic, Dies Irae & Anal Stench so the metallic pedigree is certainly there for this band to be great....But Are they?......A resounding Hell yes....These guys play a brand of heavy thrash with dual vocals...Some may be put off by the clean vocals , but they have really improved over 2006s 'In The Name Of Blood' and the deeper snarling vocals fit well "

" The sound is big and powerful, crunchy guitars, blazing double bass drums, and melodic solo's from Jacek Hiro (Sceptic).....This guy rips with the best !...."

If you are a fan of Modern melodic, and technical thrash metal, I recommend you check out this album. You will not be disappointed....

Pestilence - Spheres (1993)

1. Mind Reflections
2. Mulitple Beings
3. Level of Perception
4. Aurian Eyes
5. Soul Search
6. Personal Energy
7. Voices from Within
8. Spheres
9. Changing Perspectives
10. Phileas
11. Demise of Time

Origin - Netherlands
Style - Progressive Thrash Metal

" There are no keyboards on this album." So was stated by the band Pestilence on their 1993 album Spheres. The reason that I bring up the quote above, is because the Dutch act on this album sort of took the road that Iron Maiden did a few years prior, which is utilize extensive use of guitar synthesizers in their music, rather than actual keyboards, which for better or worse, totally changed their sound. Prior Pestilence releases took the influences of the Florida death metal scene and bands like Obituary, Death, Morbid Angel, and Death, added in some technical guitar work and progressive attitude, and came up with their own signature sound. With Spheres, the band one-upped the technical aspect, but also decided to inject even more prog and jazz into their sound, and used Roland guitar synthesizers to help out, quite a bit actually. This album here is less brutal than previous releases, relying less on crushing riffs and more on subtle jazzy embellishments. Tunes like "Changing Perspectives", "Personal Energy", "Multiple Beings", and the title track, all contain that familiar aggression "

" This is still a metal album, with Mameli's vocals still in that Death/Obituary type of growl, and the crashing, technical drum work of Marco Foddis (who also wrote all the bands lyrics). It just was a real 'about face' for the band. For the time, this album might have been a tad too odd and different, as metal bands in 1993, especially death metal bands, hadn't yet started to delve too far into prog rock territory, and this beast called Spheres certainly dove into prog, as well as jazz-fusion and ambient styles. With a constant wave of guitar synths, less brutal riffs, and relentless time & meter changes, the music here is quite sophisticated..."

Looking back, most fans now have 'gotten it' many years later, and see Spheres for the classic that it is......

Testament - The Legacy (1987)

1. Over The Wall
2. The Haunting
3. Burnt Offerings
4. Raging Waters
5. C.O.T.L.O.D.
6. First Strike Is Deadly
7. Do Or Die
8. Alone In The Dark
9. Apocalyptic City

Origin - USA
Style - Thrash Metal

" Shortly after Metallica became marketable, the heavy metal community began to focus on several other thrash bands from the San Francisco Bay area. Most came and went in the span of time it took to play side one of Master of Puppets, but Testament began a musical crusade that continues today. The band's debut album The Legacy (1987) still holds up as a fine example of hook-laden thrash music. Songs like "Over the Wall" and "The Haunting" balance barreling thrash beats and caustic screams with tuneful guitar licks and semi-melodic vocals. Lead guitarist Alex Skolnick was a large part of Testament's early appeal. And on The Legacy, his euphoric leads and intricate bridge work makes the music enjoyable and classic "

" This debut was quite a polished effort in its time and one of the better debut albums ever, thrash with class. The songs are full of solid, memorable riffs and creative solos, and although the music is basically straightforward and very energetic thrash metal with a strong balls-to-the-wall attitude...there are lots of fine touches in it "

The Legacy is a classic album and perhaps the best Testament release ever.......

" This album boasts "a massive old-school sound that fits the thrashy death metal songs perfectly." The album cover is a sinister painting made by the young and promising Danish artist Anders Davidsen.....I like it !.....Nice and evil...."

8. Forever To Burn
9. Your Blood Is Mine
10. Rest In Flames (Bonus Track)
11. Pray For Nothing (Bonus Track)
12. Perverse Suffering [Cannibal Corpse cover]

Origin - Netherlands

Style - Brutal Death Metal

" I respect Severe Torture because they come straight out and say "This is the kind of music we like, the kind we've always liked, and the kind we'll always play. We love Cannibal Corpse, and they inspire us greatly. If you don't like it, we don't care." Misanthropic Carnage continues the blazing guttural death tradition w/ no compromise whatsoever. Hardly Cannibal Clones, they take basic concepts from Tomb of the Mutilated and The Bleeding and build on that w/ excellent death grooves and notey as hell guitar lines that break out the air tremlo every time "

" Misanthropic Carnage is as solid and almost as tight as it gets for speedy pit inducing death metal. Quality no-holds-barred death metal worth the money for hard-headed death & brutal death fiends "

Havok - Apathy Esplanade e.p. (2008)

1. As The Clouds Gain Momentum
2. A Pyrrhic Victory for Humanity
3. Paramount
4. Monologue With The Sky
5. Century Of The Deviant
6. Stormfeed

Origin - Sweden

Style - Death Metal

" Havok began in the year of 2003, when guitarists Mahan Ahmadi and Miguel Cabrera founded the technical thrash/death metal outfit Ecliptica, in the southern swedish city of Lund. With a loosely knit formation, they recorded a couple of songs. During the winter of 2004, they were on the hunt for a new drummer, and conveniently found Johan Cronqvist, who had recently immigrated from the town of Halmstad. With him came the change of band name, turning the music towards a more brutal, chaotic death metal sound, yet still with remnants from the thrash days "

" Now on to this six song e.p........After a deceivingly serene flamenco styled acoustic intro Havok unleashes indeed what its name implies with its Polish oriented technical death metal. This sounds as a catchy mix between Malta's Beheaded, France's Gojira and Poland's Decapitated. Where most acts of this ilk concentrate on being the most brutal or fastest Havok does things a little differently. They include besides the earlier mentioned acoustic intro also a soothing piano piece ('Monologue With the Sky') in the middle of the EP which alternates beautifully with its contents. Much like their peers in Kronos or Inveracity this act masters their instruments exceptionally well and their songwriting craft is also quite mature given the act's relatively young age"

" I detect a touch of Anata in their progressions of the tracks and that feel of uncertainty of whats next.....These youngsters are about to unleash their debut full length early in 2009 and I am looking forward to see what this band will bring to all of us !

"Apathy Esplanade" is definitely not the most typical Swedish death metal release and as such it comes highly recommended for those looking for something more adventurous...........

October Tide - Rain Without End (1997) Remastered (2008)

1. 12 Days of Rain
2. Ephemeral
3. All Painted Cold
4. Sightless
5. Losing Tomorrow
6. Blue Gallery
7. Infinite Submission

Origin - Sweden
Style - Melodic Doom / Death Metal

" OCTOBER TIDE was a side project formed by two members of KATATONIA with their style not at all far removed from that fine group. Melancholic, sorrowful mid-paced metal, with death vocals laid over the top. Jonas Renske performed the vocals on 'Rain Without End' like he did on all early KATATONIA albums, intense, deep and very atmospherical. It was his last harsh vocal performance. The OCTOBER TIDE line-up during ’Rain Without End’ was: Fredrik Norrman: Electric, acoustic and bass guitars and Jonas Renske: Drums, electric and acoustic guitars and all vocals. Recorded at Unisound, Örebro, Sweden 1995, re-mastered by Dan Swanö Winter 2007- 2008 "

Blood Red Throne - A Taste For Blood (2002) E.P.

1. Ravenous War Machine
2. The Children Shall Endure...
3. Mary Whispers of Death
4. Monument of Death
5. Cryptic Realms (Massacre cover)
6. Malignant Nothingness

Origin - Norway
Style - Death Metal

" Blood Red Throne openly admits they never set out to change the world of metal, they just want to play music like that of the bands that had influence on them; those bands being mostly early 90's death metal like Death, Obituary, Carcass, and Deicide "

" Tchort (of Emperor and Satyricon fame) and Død do an awesome job on the guitars. There are some sweet grooves in here, added to brutal riffs and some really cool note based riffs. Some of my favorite guitar work is found in Blood Red Throne's first track, Ravenous War Machine. The EP showcases the vokills of former Blood Red Throne singers Ronni Thorsen and Mr. Hustler. Their vokills are pretty close to each other, the standard brutal death growl. The lyrics are pretty cool, which isn't too much of a surprise considering Tchort wrote them (although the song Cryptic Realms was not written by him). Blood Red Throne showcases Tchort's expansive musicianship. The guy has done black metal, death metal and doom metal and he does a good job at all of them. The production is pretty solid throughout despite the fact that the material is taken from four different recordings "

" They're nothing ground breaking but they plain and simple kick ass ! "

Ahhh...Go Ahead !
