"“Hung Be The Heavens With Black” is a work that is familiar yet fresh,..old-school..but new..!

"Clearly adept at heads down blasting, the band run the gamut of tempos as well, the driving surges possess viral infectiousness whilst more cerebral material confidently insists that the delivery is applied rather than mindless. Mid paced chugging pointedly pokes it's finger in your chest on “Meroveus Rex” as well as introducing some seriously heavy punch, the flickering lick of serpentine lead runs interspersed throughout will keep you concentrating on dark corners."

If you are happy to experience well presented, entertaining Death Metal that doesn't seek to explore new boundaries just maintain the essence of the genre and pay homage to its roots, then “Hung Be The Heavens With Black” should be right up your street.

Genre - Death Metal

"Not to be confused with the blackened death metal outfit Belphegor from austria....These guys have their own identity and I like it !

"Baalphegor's style is a mixture of Technical, complex even progressive death metal with some quite twisted, weird passages. On first listen it all sounds awfully familiar but after a few spins it is clear that we are dealing with quite unusual death metal here. One such difference is the use of flamenco guitars but also rhythms in the music, which creates drum patterns that truly stand out. The perseverant listener will be pleasantly surprised by such detours and this is what makes Post Earthquake Age a worthwhile addition to any fan of death metal out there"

3. Passage of Time
4. The Silent Threat
5. Achilles Heel
6. Covenant of Souls
7. Face to Face
8. Disintegration
9. Aftermath
1 song (43 min) 9 chapters-44 parts

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Progressive Death Metal

"What else can be said about the legendary Dan Swano...man of so much musical genius"

"Crimson II picks up where its predecessor left off. It just takes a different path musically to express itself. This is 100% Dan Swano, the compositions borrow elements from 70's prog rock which is indispensibale to Dan's musical vision. The album tends to sound like Moontower(solo cd) in some points, but still has the classic Edge of Sanity stamp all over it. The amazing riffing, rich melodies, opaque lyrics, angry vocals, great musicianship--everything"

All in all, this is a fitting goodbye from Edge of Sanity to the world. Dan Swano's musical genius has never dissapointed yet, and it definitely does not with this album.

6. Lost Euphoria part III
7. The Loss of Motion Control
8. Solitude Reflected
9. Beyond the Margin
10. The Source to Delve

Origin - Netherlands
Genre - Melodic Death Metal

"Second album of DETONATION, “Portals To Uphobia” marks an impressive evolution in the band’s sound. Incorporating a strong amount of melodies into their Death/Thrash Metal sound"

"These Dutch lads certainly can play their instruments and play them well. I hate to start off a review talking about the lone instrumental, but "Lost Euphoria part III" is a great little melodic metal piece that it deserves mention. The guitar work of Mike Ferguson and Koen Romeijn weave plenty of crunchy riffs and melodic harmony leads around each other on this one, as they do on every song. The vocals of Romeijn are your typical melodic death metal style, and will appeal to folks who dig bands like In Flames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquility, and Arch Enemy. He's at his lethal best on the bludgeoning "The Source to Delve ", backed by pounding riffs and manic rhythms, as well as the melodic yet raging inferno of "Into Sulphur I Descend ". Perhaps the best track is the behemoth title track, which mixes blazing speed metal rhythms with complex guitar riffery. The unison guitar harmonies are just spectacular, and Romeijn really growls his heart out. The band slow things down a bit on the grinding and crunchy "Chaos Banished", featuring mammoth riffs and loads of melodic guitar fills"

A great release!

6. Tricephalic Hellkeeper
7. Petrifying Beauty, Part 1 - Divine Vengeance
8. Petrifying Beauty, Part 2 - The Murderous Reflection
9. Ouranian Cyclops
10. Maze of Oblivion

Origin - France
Genre - Brutal Death Metal

"French death metal commandos Kronos are up to their 3rd album..Recorded at Hertz studios(Decapitated,Trauma,Vader)
the production is beyond any doubts"

"First of all,I think the lyrical concept on all 3 albums dealing with ancient greek mythology is quite original compared to the genre's typical gore/carnage/massacre/slaughter lyrics"

"Now on to the music.....Musically, Kronos walk a similar path like their Polish peers with occasional leanings towards classic Cannibal Corpse. 'Bringers Of Disorder' is enough proof of that. Kronos are obviously skilled musicians as the riffs flow incessantly, often overlayed and circular in nature. With regular intervals, they re-instate guitar leads, the lead on 'Until the End Of Time' shows that they are no novices on their instruments at all. The drumming is varied with a good use of rolls, fills and whenever a track calls for it: blastbeats. The double bass drums are used the old school way: to accent heavy, darker or faster parts. This is definitely a nice change with today's bands who just blast double bass drums without any real sense of purpose or direction"

6. Summoning the Darkness
7. Shattered
8. I, Deceiver
9. My Ruin
10. Seven Demons

Origin - USA
Genre - Melodic Death Metal

"From Your Grave is their Metal Blade Records debut and on this record they set a standard on how melodic death should be. They combine so many different elements of the great bands that helped define the genre. The guitar melodies remind me of old In Flames i.e. Jester Race and Colony. While the vocals have that old At The Gates feel to them. But this does not mean the are simply imitating these other bands. They definitely have their own style, and adding their flavor with the best elements of the Gothenburg sound"

"If you are a guitar player, this album is for you. Every song is littered with tasteful, skillful shredding that doesn't get stale.

So if you are into old In Flames, Soilwork, At The Gates, Arch Enemy, and Dark Tranquillity definitely go out and pick this cd

10. Darkday (Edge of Sanity Cover)

Origin - Germany
Genre - Melodic Death Metal

"2nd full length from the german horde....Here you won’t find any bombastic Death of the Gothenburg school, but neither overly technical hyperblast, only mid-paced Death Metal with a few blast parts of the traditional kind. Fans of older VADER, BOLT THROWER or EDGE OF SANITY (of which they cover the song "Darkday") can get this one without second thoughts. The riffs are to the point, variety is in place and the sound can be summed up with one word: FAT!!! What else do you want? Alternating vocals between deep, but intelligible growls and high screams? No problem at all!

4. Odium Generis Humani
5. The Darkest Road
6. Way of the Rope
7. Plutonium Reveries
8. Feeding Moloch
9. Harvest

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Melodic Black Metal

"Over the last three albums Naglfar has attempted to bridge the gap between Melodic Death and Black Metal....production wise having varying success. The sound of "Harvest" comes across as a hybrid of their last two albums, "Sheol" with its sinister and unrelenting audio assault and "Pariah" with its improved songwriting and brutal catchiness"

"With "Harvest" Naglfar have returned to the grand production sound of "Sheol" but with more complex arrangements and intelligent songcraft.Kristoffer Olivius vocalizations here completely obliterate the otherwise fine work he did on "Pariah", and places him among the elite Black Metal vocalists working today"

"From the first bars of the title track to the end of the record, it's all finesse. From the basslines to the drum fills, without skipping the jazzy guitar solos and time changes, there's something special about this band"

"Hopeless Hopes is a fantastic blend of everything that works well in a Death Metal / Jazz fusion band; excellent riffs, insane solos, melody, and absolultely insane groove!

4. Pilgrimage of Sorrow
5. The Fall of Nakkiel (Nakkiel Has Fallen)
6. Astral Dawn
7. I Love Thee
8. The Underworld
9. Lament for This Treacherous World

Origin - Denmark
Genre - Melodic Death/Doom Metal

"The album cover, showing a dead deer buried under the snow, prepares the listener for what has to come. This band from Denmark offers the doom lover more than an hour of icecold, melancholic doom metal the way only Northern European bands can play. Atmospheric keyboards, heavy guitars, a deep grunt alternated with whispering vocals and some beautiful acoustic parts: the ingredients of a dream so sad... but also so beautiful"

"There are some references to the sound of My Dying Bride ('Turn lose the swans'-'The angel and the dark river' era), but Saturnus has an own identity, and besides it's very difficult to be an atmospheric doom band without being influenced by My Dying Bride"

This is a very melodic album, although the heaviness of this work makes those melodies sound very melancholic and pessimistic.

An absolute must for doom lovers!

Genre - Death/Black Metal

"On the first listen you know it's Necrophobic's trademark sound. The music is straight in your face, blistering black/death. Very chaotic with fast and slower merciless, melodic parts (killer solos). Each song is of high quality and keeps the atmosphere interesting"

"Necrophobic in my opinion are one of the best black/death bands metal from Sweden and they're more metal than most black metal bands who heavily rely on image but can't back it up with music....Consistently churning out albums that are not original....but of high quality"

7. Valentine
8. Venezia Dismal
9. Conservatory Resonance

Origin - Italy
Genre - Doom/Death Metal

"Novembre are a band that has made a solid impression upon both the death metal and atmospheric metal scenes with equally strong results"

"They have transitioned away from death metal in recent years but on this album they were showing a definite Opethian influence with some Katatonia(old) and Anathema influences as well"

"But what is really great about this album is the emotion. Each song is bursting with emotion, and yes, that is a good thing. But it isn't an "emo", kind of emotion. It's emotion while maintaining maturity. The lyrics are very poetic and make use of intriguing imagery. The guitars are yet another gorgeous element in Novembre's music. Novembre have the ability to be incredibly technical, yet express so much sorrow and yet combine acoustic guitars to make soothing parts.Carmelo's vocals are a great mixture of Deathly(akerfeldt)growls and a clean voice that fits quite well"

To me this is their best lp and fits perfectly with your Opeth albums......Kinda Opethlite if you will.
