" 9 fast as fuck tracks and 9 bloody chances to kick the shit out of old school Death metal fanatics who like it fast as fuck and undergroundly necro-perverted! " Old-school swedish death metal anyone?......Paganizer has the goods on their 4th album "

" Swedish death metal band much in the vein of bands like Grave,Dismember (maybe less melody) and many other great bands. Chunky mid-paced riffs mostly.. with hardly a blast in sight. Rogga's low gutteral vocals and a Dan Swano Mix make this a automatic buy for any Death Metal Fan "

Slugathor - Unleashing the Slugathron (2003)

1. Delicacies Of The Cadaver
2. All Must Die
3. Bleed For Me
4. Lord Of All (Unborn)
5. Suffering Endlessly
6. Fabric Of The Multiverse
7. Instinct To Kill
8. Phenomenon Of Doom
9. Extinction
10. Abhorrent Copulation Machine

Origin - Finland
Style - Death Metal

" Slugathor's debut...originally on tape only(333) copies "

" Finland may never have been as prolific with bands as Sweden, but what they lack in quantity, they make up for with quality. I for one will take quality any day of the week. Finland has some truly classic bands... Demigod, Xysma, Abhorrence/Amorphis, Sentenced (the early stuff at least), Funebre, Demilich, and Adramelech. Well, you can add Slugathor to that list. Here is yet another band that has told the modern scene to fuck off and die in pain "

" Heavy as hell, brutal in a decidedly "non-American" way, and all-around crushing. Slugathor are one of the new rising stars in the underground. Chances are that you've never even heard about them, but you should seek them out. This is one of those bands that is buried deep in the underground, down where many "real" bands lie. They come from the same place that the gods of old came from, with the same kind of mindset and attitude towards metal. Slugathor are somewhere in the realm of Rottrevore and Incantation, impossibly combined with Demigod(Demo era) "

Awesome old-school stuff here folks !

Konkhra - Reality Check (2003)

01. Warmonger
02. The Lions Are Hungry
03. Reality Check
04. Eye of Horus
05. Hellhound on my Trail
06. Fear of god
07. The Coming of ®age
08. Grapes of Wrath
09. Parasite
10. Day of the Dog
11. Low Life
12. The Blackest of Fawns

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death Metal

" This was the fifth release from long time veterans Konkhra "

" The weight and might of this album simply cannot be disputed, and it's nice to remind ourselves that there is yet another band out there who can do a damn good job of fusing thrash and death metal, especially with “Hellhound on My Trail” and “Day of the Dog.” The short staccato blasts of rhythm guitar are very reminiscent of the technique employed by The Haunted and Dew Scented "

" Reality Check certainly is an improvement compared to Weed out the Weak and Come down Cold. Konkhra are back in business with their groovy death thrashy music. Reality Check is a war themed album, and the cover art shows a burning city. War seems to be a popular theme for metal albums these days. The album was recorded in Lundemark's own Starstruck Studios, and has an overall good production "

3. Towers on Fire
4. World of Misery
5. Leather Apron
6. Out of Control
7. Pandemonium
8. Requiem for the Headless Rider
9. The Curse of the Sleepy Hollow

Origin - Brazil
Style - Thrash/Death Metal

" Torture Squad have been annihilating the Brazilian metal scene for over 15 years now, playing visceral and powerful death/thrash metal...And with this years "Hellbound" album they have certainly made a name for themselves worldwide "

" Pandemonium is the 4th full length from Torture Squad...I think this is when they started to recieve attention from the metal scene because....This album kills !
This is a brutal blend of Thash riffing with some death overtones and the blackish vocals all supported by a crispy production "

" Every track is Thrashtastic and their hybrid of Death/Thrash should be taken into consideration by every So called modern thrash band !

If you miss the Thrash scene in the eighties, or are just starting to find your roots in the sub-genre, then this is highly recommended, as you’ll struggle to find a modern Thrash album with so many damn crushing riffs…...Buy Or Die !

11. Sand Between the Teeth
12. Abstract War (assassin cover)

Origin - Denmark
Style - Thrash Metal

" On "Through The Flesh To The Soul"Invocator deliver fast, but also modern Thrash Metal. Songs such as the title track or "Infatuated I Am (Speak To Me)" go into the ear right away and take you with them through their cool riffs. Understand..it had been 8 years between records so I remember wondering what they would sound like? "

" As you might have guessed, killer riffs sure mean a lot for these guys, because every song is very varied, and the diversity of the guitar lines and riffs are awesome, with songs of approximately 5 minutes, you have to have some special quality to maintain your listeners interested. Influences are clear, old school thrash, but with a modern touch, take Testament, add Nevermore, and mix it with a pinch of Corrosion Of Conformity, there you have it: Invocator "

With a huge production from Jacob Hansen again...as always...this one turns out a winner !.....Now..If they can just get another record out before 2011...

Omnium Gatherum - Spirits And August Light (2003)

1. Writhen
2. Deathwhite
3. The Perfumed Garden
4. Amor Tonight
5. Cure a Wound
6. The Emptiness of Spirit
7. Wastrel
8. Son's Thoughts
9. It Shines

Origin - Finland
Genre - Melodic Death Metal

" This is the debut full-length from this Finnish act who plays your general melodic Swedish death metal, adding in their own flare with a few keyboard textures and some blazing classic metal solos. Expect lots of dual guitar harmonies, some tremolo picking, a few heavier power chord rhythms, midrange vocal snarls, a constant sense of melody, an occasional power metal vibe, etc "

" "The Perfumed Garden" starts out with a brief clean snippet before breaking into some excellent guitar harmonies and lead runs, and the layering of power chords with pristine acoustic guitars is really nice. Overall the writing for this track is more interesting and diverse than usual, definitely proving that the band has their own take on the style. Another standout is "The Emptiness of Spirit", which is definitely a lot more energetic than most of this stuff tends to be these days, and effectively combines most all of the band's influences into one concise track. "Son's Thoughts" has a huge Amorphis feel during the intro, very much akin to something that might have been on "Tuonela", and the rest of the piece sounds eerily similar to some of Dark Tranquillity's later work, but it's still a great song "

This is a fine debut....and fans of Insomnium,Dark Tranquillity and the like should check it out !

The Defaced - Karma In Black (2003)

1. Fumes From The Swamp
2. Once In Between
3. 10 vs. 9
4. Exit Body On Mass
5. Beneath My Swirl
6. A Moment of Clarity
7. The Fading Suns
8. Soulsides
9. Forever Winding
10. Karma In Black

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Thrash/Groove Metal

" I'm not going to tell that Sweden's The Defaced is filled with musicians of Darkane and Soilwork. Damn I just did it!! I dont want to compare those bands to this one...because its a different beast all-together "

" After having listened to the first song of "Karma in Black" ("Fumes from the swamp") Un-fucking-believable, these guys have hit on something . Still this is only the beginning, the songs that are about to follow show the immense talent of The Defaced. "Once in between" takes out all of the Darkane and Soilwork influences, it sounds brutal, yet very catchy and easy listening. The immense level of tightness only increases with songs like "10 vs 9" (fucking intense breaks!) and the industrial pieces "Exit body on mass" and "Beneath my swirl". Nevertheless all of these songs are no match for the ultimate devouring "A moment of clarity". Without knowing the fact that these guys are Swedes you'd swear to be listening to a new Machine Head song. Fucking awesome! The remaining songs of "Karma in Black" only make the album more convincing and catchy. "

" There's really nothing negative to say about this album. Most positive aspect is the vocal part of Henrik Sjiowall, especially the clean vocals on songs like "Once in between", "Forever winding" and "Karma in black" show the incredible talent of this guy."

Fans of catchy and groovy metal can blindly purchase this album, fans of Soilwork and Darkane should really give it a try.......

3. The Enemy Within
4. No Tears For Mankind
5. The Haunted Past
6. Darkness Reigns Supreme
7. Bridge Of Fire
8. Terror-tory

Origin - Netherlands
Genre - Death Metal

" Dutch death metal's own Pleurisy with their second album.....And If you've heard their latest " Seizure"(on this site) you are bound to dig their heavy grooves and crushing riffs "

" Let's come to their music Pleurisy play mid-tempo and some fast death metal with a big blend of melody. And this is why they are quite unique, there are tons of death metal bands out there who play solid fast and mid-tempo stuff but Pleurisy give that an outstanding touch with hypnotising melodies! Brutal death metal with double-bass attacks and heavy moshing guitar riffs are suddenly alternated by melodic riffing that adds a lot of harmony....deeply growled vocals and bass heavy drums round out the attack "

" Pleurisy bring to the table an atmosphere that most death metal bands can't capture....And I for One...dig this kinda shit-heavy,catchy death metal !

Kalmah - Swampsong (2003)

1. Heroes to Us
2. Burbot's Revenge
3. Cloned Insanity
4. The Third, the Magical
5. Bird of Ill Omen
6. Doubtful About It All
7. Tordah
8. Man with Mystery
9. Moon of My Nights

Origin - Finland
Genre - Melodic Death Metal

" Musically, Kalmah fuses guitar-keyboard-driven power metal with a growling voice for truly bombastic results. Comparisons to Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom and Skyfire are unavoidable. The musicianship and song arrangements on Swampsong are top-notch, you won’t find one filler track here. As a matter of fact, you should expect nothing but very impressive guitar licks and catchy keyboard lines on every track! "

" So, if you've grown disenfranchised with those melodic death metal bands that have begun to emphasize melody over brutality, and long for the days when "melodic" was relatively unknown in the extreme metal world, then forget about Kalmah. This album will not satisfy your appetite for total destruction and chaos and will do absolutely nothing for you. Now, if on the other hand you are one of those subjects who simply likes the fact that “melodic” entered the world of “extreme metal”, then give Kalmah’s Swampsong a spin. You won’t be disappointed! 2. Heretic
3. Orphaned Heaven
4. Sworn
5. Ardour
6. Manacle of Dogma
7. Lunar Scars
8. Down
9. Stillborn Rebirth
10. Dead Sun - Withered
11. Outcast

Origin - Austria
Genre - Melodic Death/Black Metal

" The debut release of IN SLUMBER is a mixture of Death Metal with some Black Metal elements. There are melodic and groovy parts in it too. These components create an atmospheric sound structure, which reminds of the Swedish Melodic Death Metal Style, but the tracks have a certain independent touch. Fantastic acoustic passages liven up the Songs (Heretic, Ardour and the title track), in order to go ahead with brutal hard riffing and double bass attacks. The songs sound spontaneous and honest "

" Vocally Wolfgang Rothbauer covers a wide range. From deep Death Metal Growls (Heretic, Down), Black Metal screaming (Orphaned Heaven, Sworn) to spoken or whispered passages (Ardour, Lunar Scars) you will hear everything on this album. The changing vocals follow the mood of the music perfectly "

2. Unbeliever
3. Virtues of the Beast
4. Faust
5. When All is None
6. Red Code Cult
7. Dark River
8. Magic Loves Infinity
9. Sumerian Daemon
10. Mechanical Babylon
11. Infernal Sun
12. The Watchers
13. Shapeshifter

Origin - Greece
Genre - Atmospheric Death Metal

" Normally intros on metal albums are quite superficial, but Septic Flesh show that it is also possible to produce quite a bombastic one. The first real song Unbeliever is a logical suite to the intro. Bombastic monumental soundtrack-like tunes get combined with very brutal death metal riffs. This sounds very unusual, but also interesting. Especially the use of a mixed male and female choir gives nearly each song the certain touch that goes below the skin. It's great how Septic Flesh are able to combine brutality with melodies, and this all enriched with opera and symphonic parts"

" As Septic Flesh were already formed back in 1990, they may be called a Greek institution, but they are still able to play innovative metal after more than 13 years of band existence. The album also takes advantage of a huge sound. It was recorded in the Swedish Fredman Studio "

We all thought this would be their swansong...until reforming and releasing "Communion"in 2008 - another classic !

This must be heard by all fans of dark music !

4. A Presence Inexplicable
5. Dirty Priest
6. Spawn of Possession
7. Inner Conflict
8. Cabinet
9. The Forbidden
10. Church of Deviance
11. Uncle Damfee

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Technical Brutal Death Metal

" This is Spawn of Possession's debut album, and it's a very impressive piece of work. After a 48 second non-musical intro, these guys rip into 37 minutes of technical, brutal death metal. Their riffs have the tight, syncopative style of Deeds of Flesh with the sharp guitar tone and melodic flash of Necrophagist. Thus, they achieve a near-optimal mix of technicality, musicality, and brutality. They also use a variety of riff tempos and styles, without overusing any particular technique. The end result is that the music remains brutal yet doesn't get boring. The playing is excellent: they're exceptionally tight and handle even the most technical sections with ease. Still, the focus is on the songs, and none of the instruments steal the spotlight. There are a few guitar solos, but they're tasteful, appropriate and short "

" Lyric-wise, exorcism and spiritual/mental control seem to be the main subjects discussed, and considering how violent and haunting each of them can be, it fits the music perfectly. Nothing beats the singer talking about his soul being warped and mutated to the point where he cannot help but want to go on killing sprees, while the music describes every single moment of the man's change, corruption and deeds"

They come from Hungary and they are fucking killers. “This Corroded Soul of Mine” could easily be the following album of The “Slaughter of The Soul”. There’s nothing inferior to the last one of A.T.G.. Supreme production, excellent musical skills and a frontman that is really close to what Mr. Tomas Lindberg has done for A.T.G. in the past"

4. Swallow (Horror Pt.1)
5. Silence of the Womb
6. Hold This Woe
7. Under the Waves
8. The Morning Never Came

Origin - Finland
Genre - Melodic Doom/Death Metal

" Depressing, bleak, disheartening, dismal, sombre, dreary, and dispiriting, are some of the words that can attempt to describe the mood set on The Mourning Never Came. Firstly, the production and instrumentation is top notch....The second thing that deserves mention, is that all the band members can be heard, nothing seems to outweigh anything else."

" A combination of melody over crushing doom riffs makes this debut album the absolute best of 2003. Most of the vocals delivered are deep and guttural, although there are some nicely written clean vocals lines in some songs, and sometimes they even delve into more mid-ranged vocals and even higher, pain-filled screams. The music and texture of this album is one of absolute darkness and beauty, oftentimes existing simultaneously"

5. Achilles Heel
6. Covenant of Souls
7. Face to Face
8. Disintegration
9. Aftermath
1 song (43 min) 9 chapters-44 parts

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Progressive Death Metal

"What else can be said about the legendary Dan Swano...man of so much musical genius"

"Crimson II picks up where its predecessor left off. It just takes a different path musically to express itself. This is 100% Dan Swano, the compositions borrow elements from 70's prog rock which is indispensibale to Dan's musical vision. The album tends to sound like Moontower(solo cd) in some points, but still has the classic Edge of Sanity stamp all over it. The amazing riffing, rich melodies, opaque lyrics, angry vocals, great musicianship--everything"

All in all, this is a fitting goodbye from Edge of Sanity to the world. Dan Swano's musical genius has never dissapointed yet, and it definitely does not with this album.
