Autumnia - O´Funeralia (2009)

1. In Heavens... Among the Tombs
2. Blessing Your Illness
3. Falling Asleep With Entreaty
4. Breathe Your Mourning Into Me
5. By The Candles Obsequial

Origin - Ukraine
Style - Doom/Death Metal

" The Ukraine's Autumnia again delivers an impressive album for fans of melodic doom metal. The music is quite slow-paced, utterly melancholic and sorrowfilled "

" What you can expect is pure doom that is quite fresh and original. The riffs are heavy, but at times quite melodic with the occasional clean guitar picking often reminding me of Draconian. Vocally: Deep deep Growls and the occasional clean chorus..but not much "

I highly recommend this album to anyone who’s into melodic doom/death metal, filled with sorrowful and dark passion !
For fans of: Swallow The Sun,Draconian, etc...

Decomposed - Hope Finally Died... (1993)

1. Inscriptions
2. Taste The Dying
3. Falling Apart
4. At Rest
5. Instrumental
6. Procession (Of The Undertakers)
7. (Forever) Lying In State

Origin - United Kingdom
Style - Doom/Death Metal

" One and only full length from Croydons own Decomposed "

" Doom/Death Metal started as Death Metal slowed down and given a different sound and feel...Such bands as Winter played a big part in this fusion of styles...Later Anathema,Katatonia,My Dying Bride Etc. made this style more prominent and popular. Decomposed were a short-lived band from the early 90s, and belong to the transient stage of death/doom, before the aforementioned evolution had been completed; in this respect, they are very much still a death metal band "

" As a death metal album, Hope Finally Dies… is excellent; it remains constantly inventive, not once stagnating or becoming repetitive. Its blend of solid death metal riffing and down-tempo face pummeling is fantastic; a hint of melody is apparent in the doom-inspired sections, but this does not in any way detract from the album’s forcefulness. Lead guitars are very prominent, in stark contrast to the usual doom aesthetic, but Decomposed pull it off with a strong sense of grace and finesse, as can be seen on ‘At Rest’. The solos are very cohesive with the album’s sound, and are not overplayed – the guitarist is seemingly modest, opting out of mindless wankery and avoiding the slippery slope of intangible clutter. What results is an album that is played from the heart and not from the head "

A Forgotten Classic.......Highly recommended !

Hanging Garden - Inherit The Eden (2007)

1. Sleep Of Ages
2. As The Circle Fades
3. Ethereal Passing
4. Shards Of Life
5. Paper Doves
6. Stillborn
7. The Mourners Plain
8. Fall Into Tehom

Origin - Finland
Genre - Doom/Death Metal

" As a doom fan it is a true pleasure to listen to 'Inherit The Eden'. The music is fluent, relaxing and melodious, but on the other hand surprises with brutal eruptions and raucous vocals. Ari Nieminen has a gruff growl/grunt sometimes passing into a scream-like timbre. It perfectly fits the music of Hanging Garden. These are long songs, mostly rather slow, but injected with necessary accelerations to keep it engrossing. Keyboards are important as soaring, atmospheric factor and together with the melodic, meandering guitars, they give the music an ethereal beauty. 'Ethereal Passing' and 'Stillborn' are two shorter instrumental songs that are very beautiful and calm. The compositions are graced with acoustic interludes on guitars"

" The album is one huge doom manifest, a bit along the lines of their fellow countrymen Swallow The Sun, although there are no clean vocals here. It is preferable to listen to it as a whole, but if I have to pick out one song, I go for 'Shards Of Life' that combines surprisingly up tempo gothic guitars with chopping riffs, slower passages and a fast and furious outburst including a ferocious scream. This album has the saturnine beauty of Finnish nature and is highly recommended to all aficionados of melodic doom/death metal"

If you love bands like Swallow The Sun, Saturnus or Doom:vs you will want this album.

Paradise Lost - Gothic (1991)

1. Gothic
2. Dead Emotion
3. Shattered
4. Rapture
5. Eternal
6. Falling Forever
7. Angel Tears
8. Silent
9. The Painless
10. Desolate

Origin - United Kingdom
Genre - Doom/Death Metal

" This is one of the most important Metal albums, because it exerted a big influence on the whole doom/death scene. The release is the second of PARADISE LOST . If we have to talk about the heaviness of the music, it's here - the slow and crushing guitars, the wonderful solos and the smashing voice of Nick Holmes. But then came something new - female vocals and orchestral passages, and they are alternated with the brutal sound very well. I think that PL has made a unique album for the those times. About the songs - you can't be bored, because every second of them sounds different. The lyrics - I think everyone should realize the influences of PL in text attitude. You should listen to this part of Metal History!

" And while the production isn't up to todays standards...this still is a monumental release and had huge influences on todays Doom/Death scene....Swallow The Sun,Rapture,Draconian...etc

Process of Guilt - Renounce (2006)

1. Motionless
2. Becoming Light
3. Fragments
4. Window
5. Falling
6. Crawl
7. Burden

Origin - Portugal
Genre - Doom/Death Metal

" A tremendous release from portugal !..... Powerful, bright, atmospheric debut work of melodic death/doom quartet Process Of Guilt "

" I would mention some elements that make Renounce what it is. Firstly, it’s melodies in brightness and infectivity similar to works of Swallow The Sun and Katatonia’s first releases. Then it is powerful growling and atmospheric low clear vocal. And, at last, a guitar layer: a vicious sound wall, ambient effect and doomy gloomy atmosphere "

This is truly impressive work that deserves significantly more attention than many underground endeavors are capable of achieving !
