" This is definitley one of the best Viking metal albums ever made....growled brutal vocals, excellent guitar work which presents a perfect mix of aggression, melody, and epicness, and the drums sound like a battleground. This was the only full length that Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth) played on "

" Their best in my opinion....And thats saying alot !....Because Amon Amarth consistently put out high quality music every album.....Vikings Live On !

" On this record Sororicide play a brand of Dissonant eerie..Doomy Death Metal with bizarre melodies and Growls from the belly of hell itself. The tracks are mostly mid-paced with some faster sections...Weird Upside down solo's sprinkled throughout and a Cult Production (which I dig)..Its dirty,Ugly Death Metal ! "

A Unique death metal gem from a place that wasn't exactly bursting with Death Metal Bands....

2. Before the Dawn
3. Unholy Prophecies
4. The Nocturnal Silence
5. Inborn Evil
6. The Ancients Gate
7. Sacrificial Rites
8. Father of Creation
9. Where Sinners Burn

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Recorded at Sunlight Studios with Tomas Skogsberg handling the production duties..This was Necrophobics Debut album "

" This record did not sound like all the other Entombed clones... even though it was recorded in the same studio with the same producer. This one had more mid range melodies...Such as Dissection or Unanimated "

" Necrophobic actually came up with their own style of dark and occult death metal. Where most other bands concentrated on corpses, death, mutilations and other related topics Necrophobic in the contrary concentrated more on the darker side of life. This resulting in an album which still sounded typical Swedish though definitely with an own touch. The music was brutal but at the same time melodic and the atmosphere was much more sinister, mystical and dark than most other death metal bands around...Even using keys to enhance the evil feeling "

One of the best blackened Death Metal albums of all time !

8. A Chapter in Loathing
9. Death Triumphant

Origin - United Kingdom
Style - Death/Doom Metal

" 10th full length from the U.K. doomsters "

" For old fans: The violins are back...I always thought this made the band unique and am glad they are back. Now Vocals: Aaron has gone to a more somber clean voice and there is very little growling on this record..(A let Down)As He has one of the best growls in the buisness...There are some gruff parts and almost black metal parts to the vocals..But he has made improvements to the clean voice and does not wail as much "

" Guitars are weeping,Melody driven....Twin harmony machines of grim greyness!..This record feels more dark and depressive than ever before. There are a hell of a lot of different textures to this album and it will take you some time to extract all the feelings here. Plenty of catchy riffs with ear friendly melodies and choruses...."

3. Morbid Reality
4. Megalomaniac
5. A Suburb to Hell
6. Genocidal Raids
7. Time Shall Tell
8. Dark Eternity

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Of Darkness... is the debut album from Swedish death metal act Therion. Therion had released two demo tapes and an EP before the release of this album "

" The music on Of Darkness... is typical old school Swedish death metal with both fast paced and more mid-paced down-tuned metal riffing. The vocals are very brutal growls....Vocalist Christofer Johnsson sounds like he means it and that´s a quality I´m always after when listening to music with growling vocals "

" Of Course..This album was recorded and produced by Tomas Skogsberg and was Recorded & mixed at Sunlight Studio, Stockholm, August-September 1990...So you know what the sound was like...Buzzsaw heavy !

This is when Therion was Good.....Not the gothic Symphonic/Operatic Metal..nonsense they spew out today !

5. Detestable Birth Tapestries with Snakes Embroidered
6. Der Tanz der Toten

8. Orgasmic Fetid Breath
9. Love, Death's Betrothed
10. Immobile
11. Mutisme
12. Shadowless
13. La Mauvais Oeil

Origin - Switzerland
Style - Brutal Black Death Metal

" Weeping Birth is a one man Brutal Black/Death metal project by Vladimir Cochet, also the sole member of Mirrorthrone and Unholy Matrimony. Anosognosic Industry of the I is his third album under the moniker Weeping Birth. It is well within the sub genre of blackened death metal, with references to melodic death metal and progressive metal. The last three tracks also have clear avant garde leanings and even shows influence from ambient music and neoclassical "

" The album starts off with fast paced blast beats, angry guitars and megawatts of obvious talent. The album is extremely brutal and tightly played. The production is mostly crisp and massive, and the compositions are varied and well executed. How a single individual is able to put together an album of such complexity and consistency is simply astounding. Cochet plays guitars, bass and vocals as well as programs synthesizers and drum-machines. The music is violent, dense, and long.....sometimes too long "

" In my opinion: This could have been split into two albums...because at over 73 minutes it is very exhausting and to make it all the way through is a job in itself....However their are some tremendous ideas and playing on this record...Think the faster parts of Zyklon,Emperor,Marduk....."

All in all, if you are a fan of Black/Death metal, it is worth the money....Just try it in two parts....Or not

3. Elegance In Aggression
4. Saviour
5. Of Winter Born
6. Solitude
7. Dynasty Damnation
8. Tide Of Pestilence
9. In The Face Of Absolution
10. Elusion Of Mortality

Origin - United Kingdom
Style - Death Metal

"Of Winter Born" is the storming debut from Britain's own Ignominious Incarceration. With a sound fusing powerful modern death metal with an icy melodic edge "

" This band plays a similar style of music like that of Decapitated mixed with the melodic power of Revocation , which incorporates the brutality of traditional death metal and the technical playing of modern metal. Technical rhythms and damn catchy choruses...fused with melodic passages and twin guitars.Vocally: This guy has his shit together....Roaring lows and some mid-range throaty yells "

This one reminds me of last years crop of 'New' Death Metal bands such as Revocation,Deny The Urge etc...Merging various styles into one great record.

I for one...Like It!......I suggest fans of Newer technical and melodic Death Metal check this one out......

Nocturnus - The Key (1990)

1. Lake of Fire
2. Standing in Blood
3. Visions from Beyond the Grave
4. Neolithic
5. Undead Journey
6. Before Christ/After Death
7. Andromeda Strain
8. Droid Sector
9. Destroying the Manger
10. Empire of the Sands

Origin - USA
Style - Technical Atmospheric Death Metal

" Nocturnus was an American progressive death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by drummer/vocalist Mike Browning (formerly of Morbid Angel). They were known for being unique in the Florida death metal scene because of their science-fiction-themed lyrics (although often combined with typical death metal anti-Christian sentiments), and use of keyboards, both of which were virtually unknown in extreme metal at the time of their formation "

" Science Fiction, Space Traveling, Time Warp, Satanic, Death/ Thrash Metal. What the hell is that, you ask? Why, it can only be Nocturnus.....These boys are definitely one of a kind. With songs like "Visions From Beyond the Grave," "Droid Sector" and Destroying the Manger " they were definitely on the forefront of future Thrash (or future Death, whatever you want to call it). This album contains odd keyboard intros on almost every song, but along with the keyboards are fast, speedy, and technical guitars that make Nocturnus a band of the future and 'The Key' a must for any Tech,Prog Death Metal fan "

This album is totally amazing and a legendary piece of DM history......

5. Inner Hell
6. Unexpectable Lies
7. And Now...
8. Usual Crap
9. Become
10. World Plague
11. Sadistik Peace
12. Fant-Easy Reality

Origin - France
Style - Technical Death Metal

" With the success of bands like Gojira...France has really taken hold of the Death Metal community.... giving notice that they have heavy and original bands to offer ! Trepalium is the next in line to show brutal, catchy, heavy Death Metal to the world "

" The technical abilities of Trepalium and their influences reach further than usual in death metal circles. Here and there a heavy groove is used and also we are regularly treated to ingenious jazzy guitar licks. This results in some great tunes, like ‘Inner Hell’ and ‘Usual Crap’, with the latest song not only sounding very funky but also reflecting progressive sounds. This stuff is infectious and heavy ! "

Trepalium is currently supporting Gojira on tour and this is more than justified given this strong and surprisingly varied technical death metal record. Highly Recommended !!

Panzerchrist - Soul Collector (2000)

1. Das Leben Will Gewonnen Sein
2. P2krieg
3. Der Panzertoter
4. Panzergrenadier
5. Schwars ist Unser Panzer (Ich Batt'einen Kameraden)
6. Unser hochste Ehre
7. Kalt Wie der Finsternis
8. Zum Gegenstoss

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death/Black Metal

" Inspired by the image of the famous German Panzer tank, this Danish band mercilessly crush through eight tracks of outstanding Death/Black metal. The band is aptly named as the music truly makes one think of the plodding, muscular, and unshakable machine of war that Panzerchrist idolize "

" Like the famous German efficiency, the band's musicianship is very tight, the riffs kick ass, and the production is excellent. The lyrics, which are all in German, are delivered in a vocal style that mixes low churning growls with an almost whisper like tone, with higher black metal-like rasps. Amidst these more typical elements found in this type of death metal are some fabulous guitar solos that more than a few times reminded me of Death. The grace of the solos provide a flavorful contrast between themselves and the rumbling no-frills rhythmic elements of the songs "

Fans of Brutal Death Metal mixed with Black metal overtones cannot go wrong here.......A necessity period !

6. 60 Steps
7. I Will Not Be Broken
8. A Cloud of Smoke
9. I Am
10. Signs of Life
11. Of Life and Death

Origin - Germany
Style - Death Metal

" 2nd full length from this french death machine "

" All lyrics were by murderers on Death Row facing imminent execution.....Heavy shit indeed...But what about the music?..Have no fear...This album is brutal but not in a technical way....In a heavy as fuck way!...The guitars have a very evil, dissonant tone to them and are obviously heavily distorted with a thick top end. Vocals are top notch..A growl that's a little higher in pitch than most and some shrieks also "

If this album had kick ass solos...It would have been legendary...But it still stands as a high octane piece of Brutal ,Uncompromising Death metal of the highest order !

Supuration - The Cube (1993)

1. Prelude
2. The Elevation
3. Soul's Speculum
4. 138.JP.08
5. The Cube
6. Through the Transparent Partitions
7. Spherical Inner-Sides
8. The Accomplishment
9. 4TX.31B
10. The Dim Light

Origin - France
Style - Death/Doom Metal

" Supuration was founded in 1990 and in that same year they released their first demo. Three more singles/EP's followed before the band released their brilliant "The cube" album in 1993. "The cube" is as said death metal but actually this description isn't covering the band's unique sound very well. The songs are indeed based on death metal but Supuration had put a lot of work in coming up with brilliant and unique leadguitar playing and string-picking and because of this Supuration can be recognized out of thousands "

" Also the vocals are based upon death metal with their deep tone but Ludovic also has fantastic clean vocals besides a great deathly voice (one of the better growls in death metal) and this combination of both clean vocals and low growls still wasn't common in death metal in 1993. So in many ways the band was far ahead of their time already with this album. All ten songs on "The cube" are extremely great and never get boring at all and because of the unique playing these songs can't be compared to other bands at all. Unfortunately most people are not even aware of this great band so I really advice everyone to check this fantastic band out....."

Abramelin - Deadspeak (2000)

1. Pleasures
2. Your Casualty
3. Waste
4. Bleeding Hearts
5. The Germ Factory
6. Flesh Furnace
7. Plague

Origin - Australia
Style - Death Metal

" 2nd (and sadly last) album for the band. There's no one particular band Abramelin sounds like, but they mix all of the sounds of the early 90s death metal pioneers, much in the same way Bloodbath has tried to capture the classic sounds of old school death metal. The production is good, perhaps a tiny bit fuzzy, but the guitar sound is really chunky, the palm muting really slugs your gut. The drums are done with a drum machine, but you may not notice that on your first listen. It's not that the drum sound is particularly organic (it isn't), it's just that the drums were obviously programmed by someone who knows how to write drum music. Many drum machines are setup very simply, with almost no fills, whereas the drumming on this album has all of the fills, tricks and flair of a real drummer (note: I have since been told that drum parts were written by Blood Duster drummer Rizzo) "

" Vocals are midrange growling. The thing that really makes this CD though are the riffs. Every song on the album has at least one riff that just makes me jump out of seat, yell "fuck ya" and then sends me off searching for something to slam into. Spectacular material, it's so sad that the band dissolved after this release. This CD is really hard to find, but it is so worth the money "

Suffer - Structures (1994)

1. Temporary Sane
2. Passionate Structures
3. Lies Within
4. Selected Genes
5. A Frenetic Mind
6. Maginary Homecoming
7. The Killing Culture
8. Freedom Of Speech

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" A fusion of old-school death metal with the newer Swedish style, influenced as much by the thunderous Tampa blasters as anything from Europe, this band delivered solid but basic death metal that was reminiscent of Morgoth Vs Death"

" This rigid, boxy death metal takes its inspiration as much from rudimentary hardcore as from the first generation of death metal, but sustains itself through a continuity of rhythm which even in interruption provides, as the title suggests, a basic sense of structure permeating all of reality. Its riffcraft deals in simplicity but in links the riffs narrate an experience much as classical guitar moves through motifs. Its primary influence is "Spiritual Healing" era Death, in the choice of riff style and placement of vocal rhythm, and it echoes the choices of many early death metal bands in having hardcore-like primitive riffs over which inventive heavy metal lead guitar weaves a rhythm and harmony track "

This is a forgotten classic of Swedish death metal.....

" New one from the swedish gods of grind !....15 tracks of unholy gore metal, served on a viscera infested mortuary slab for your audial displeasure "

" But, as the typical Death Metal sound is becoming more and more prevalent in the Metal scene, 'Corpus In Extremis: Analysing Necrocriticism' really is a breath of old, putrid yet strangely fresh air "

Loudblast - Sublime Dementia (1993)

1. Presumption
2. Wisdom... (Farther On)
3. Turn the Scales
4. About Solitude
5. Subject to Spirit
6. Fire and Ice
7. In Perpetual Motion
8. Fancies
9. Sublime Dementia
10. My Last Journey

Origin - France
Style - Death Metal

" This is loudblast's 3rd release....And an underground classic it is ! "

" Sublime Dementia saw the band delve more into Death Metal than before and put out 9 tracks of heavy, hypnotic and atmospheric death metal.....I say 9 cause...one track has a female soprano singer that sounds sort of cheesy..But none the less this album is crushing ! "

" The aggressiveness of the album is not so much the speed, but the weight of the songs.... The riffs are dark and mid-tempo mostly . And then, we can not forget about drummer, Hervé Coquerel, who controls his drums to perfection and is remarkable in his precision. He does not abuse the double bass and is adept at putting fills where they are needed. The voice of Stéphane Buriez is no stranger either to the sense through which we listen to this album. It is deep and seems straight out of a place we would not visit. And when he decided to try a clear, monotone voice, as it is in the first Supuration album, it drives the point home a little more, creating a real uneasiness in listening "

Sublime Dementia is an album of sublime(Puns a plenty) French Death Metal and should really be discovered by all death metal fans of the Early 90s....

15. Blessedness
16. Holy communion perversities
17. Graveyard rats
18. By the grace of god
19. When the death is real
20. Holy communion perversities

Origin - Finland
Style - Death Metal

Tracks 11-15 are from the demo "The art of dark desires" (1994)
Tracks 16-19 are from the demo "Cradle of sorrow" (1994)
Track 20 is from the compilation CD "Sometimes death is better" (1995)

" Garcharot started in 1990 and play old school Death Metal, as it was custom to do back then. Think of Grave, Morbid Angel, Death, Benediction etc. "

" The ten new songs that form "Core Of Despair" are true and true old school, also in terms of sound. It's rough, unpolished and the compositions certainly don't make you think about anything modern Death Metal-ish. From start to finish you get mostly mid tempo songs, but as was common back in the day you also get variety. And by that I mean in terms of tempo and speed, where the drums play a crucial role. Cool crushing riffs but nary a guitar solo in sight...Vocals are intelligible and easy to follow "

The demos and comp tracks are exactly what you would expect...Pure pounding death metal with a typical production from the era...Actually Quite Good...

20 songs, 77 minutes of pure old school Death Metal and in fact the entire discography of GARCHAROT on one disc....Awesome when bands do this kind of thing ! Core Of Despair" may not be the best Death Metal release ever, but it sure is one for those who long back to the times when Death Metal was big, dark, dangerous and uncompromising.

Karnarium - Karnarium (2008)

1. Of Groove and Lust
2. Pasupuja
3. 1000 I's
4. Engulfed with a Disgust for Life
5. III (Hammer of Darkness)
6. The Glory of Necrolatry
7. Nihilophobia (The Pointlessness of Being)
8. Wizard of Gore
9. Feral Transmogrifikation

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Formed in 1998...Karnarium has taken 10 years for their debut full length!..With a clutch of demos,splits,e.p.,and a comp of all of it...Its about time for this to be unleashed "

" Karnarium's style reminds me of Crematory...some early Entombed and some touches of early Incantation thrown in for good measure. But this shit sounds obscure and often quite evil....maybe even a touch of suicidal black metal vibe going on also. The production is raw, primitive sounding...I wish the guitars were beefier and less bass(ie)...But it is what it is...Evil,Grinding, Brutish Death Metal "

" Take your time with this one....As it takes a few listens to get the full Horror and Dark mood that this music represents....Obscure?...Yes....But killer none the less !

3. Universe Momentum
4. Incarnated
5. Orbital Elements
6. Desolate Spheres
7. Infinite Rotation
8. Noosphere
9. Cosmogenesis
10. Centric Flow

Origin - Germany
Style - Technical Death Metal

" This is the second album by German technical death metal quartet Obscura.By pedigree alone (two former members of Necrophagist and an ex-member of Pestilence), this particular lineup had some pretty high stakes set, and guest spots by Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic) and Ron Jarzombek (Blotted Science) only add to the anticipation......"

" As Pestilence and Death did in the past, Obscura is forcing progressive (death) metal to new boundaries in 2009. The problem with most albums in this genre is...Not getting trapped in the perfect sound syndrome...And they did not!.. Obscura left plenty of balls and brutality in the tracks...so not only the technical freaks can enjoy ‘Cosmogenesis’ "

" If you love ridiculously tight Atheist-style riffing, melodic sweep-picking solos, fusion breakdowns and fretless bassists that refuse to settle for a supporting role...Then you have come to the right place friends ! "

This band not only shows their technical skills, they also prove they can write great melodies and songs that are palatable..not only for the tech Fan.....

Progressive/Tech/Death Metal Fan's: I have a feeling this will be one of the top albums of 2009...When All Is Said And Done !

5. Stones And Stocks
6. Tracer Bullet Falling Star
7. Scrupulum

Origin - Russia
Style - Progressive Death Metal

" Third album from this most excellent progressive death metal band from Russia "

" These guys bring us a very consistent release, providing inspiration for musicians and showing that you can be progressive without losing good song writing. The album has a quite brutal thick sound, but shows very subtle progressive elements really well. This is because the production is marvellous. Each instrument can be picked out very well, pay close attention to the bass in particular, it's great! If you're tired of all the brutal death metal bands or the predictability of some progressive bands out there. Check this out.I always hear people saying, progressive metal is boring, this proves the opposite "

Phenomenal stuff with some truly amazing riffs, 'Equivoke' recalls an updated, darker version of the most technical albums by bands like Obliveon and Loudblast...&...Theory In Practice

Origin - Finland
Style - Black/Death Metal

" Blackened death metal is what Gloria Morti are all about "

" The band´s 2nd full-lenght opus, Eryx, blows such a hateful manifest of violent and ripping blackened death metal out from the speakers that one's bible must turn to ashes. It´s undoubtedly Behemoth´s name that is brought to the forefront as one listens to this monster. Comparisons aside....Eryx is malicious and also very controlled ala Zyklon...Vocalist Psycho brings both the deathly growl but a snarling black metal scream also "

" The production (largely courtesy of guitar player Juho Räihä, mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvoxx) is staggeringly flawless. The music is unrelenting, but the keyboards (one of the most abused instruments in metal) soar perfectly above the brutality of the guitars and a drum kit that is being pulverised into submission "

To sum up,: Brilliant example of modern melodic Black/death metal. Prodigious amount of musical ability going on for these guys and gal.....

Fan's of Emperor,Zyklon,Behemoth take note !

" 6th full length from the under-rated Criminal "

" With 'White Hell' Criminal bring forth another dose of highly charged thrash metal....Its been 4 years since 'Sicario"..their last record(Brilliant) and things have not changed much in the Criminal camp. Strong thrash songs with stunning leads and a stout production is in order "

" Brutally straight thrash with mid-tempo groove and some melodic breaks to finish up...White Hell is convincing and a powerpacked metal Disc indeed !

Criminally Under-Rated !......Ehhhh !
