Cromlech - The Vulture Tones - Ep (2000)

1. A Clarity Denied
2. The Bleeding
3. The Vulture Tones
4. Garden of Sin

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Cromlech formed in Varberg,Sweden in 1994....Made up of members of such Swedish luminaries as Eucharist,Ablaze My Sorrow,Meshuggah. They delivered 2 demos and this Ep..Before splitting in 2001 "

" "A Clarity Denied" hits quick with scathing, inherently Swedish-sounding riffs, but injected with a healthy dose of melody as one would expect. The melodies, however, are not the standard 3rds and 5ths used by many of their peers, Cromlech have found some very unorthodox, tension-building harmonies to paint their palettes with. Shifting rhythms and meters are plentiful as well, along with large amounts of hyperspeed blast beats and tremolo-picked riffs, again highlighting that very "Swedish" quality to their sound "

" There are also some superbly skilled guitar-solos on display, with his command of sweep-picked arpeggios. The vocals are strongly rooted in the Black-vein, shrieking cries of agony, emanating the vibe of the bleak lyrics very effectively. All these elements make this album a breath of fresh air amidst the countless forgettable bands coming from Sweden, using the "Melodic Death Metal"-tag to sell their names..."

" I wish this would have been the pre-cursor to a full-length...Because this stuff strikes me as very unique...Almost blackish sounding Melodic Death Metal.

All 4 tracks are equally superb....And fans of At The Gates & Eucharist should get this !

Panzerchrist - Soul Collector (2000)

1. Das Leben Will Gewonnen Sein
2. P2krieg
3. Der Panzertoter
4. Panzergrenadier
5. Schwars ist Unser Panzer (Ich Batt'einen Kameraden)
6. Unser hochste Ehre
7. Kalt Wie der Finsternis
8. Zum Gegenstoss

Origin - Denmark
Style - Death/Black Metal

" Inspired by the image of the famous German Panzer tank, this Danish band mercilessly crush through eight tracks of outstanding Death/Black metal. The band is aptly named as the music truly makes one think of the plodding, muscular, and unshakable machine of war that Panzerchrist idolize "

" Like the famous German efficiency, the band's musicianship is very tight, the riffs kick ass, and the production is excellent. The lyrics, which are all in German, are delivered in a vocal style that mixes low churning growls with an almost whisper like tone, with higher black metal-like rasps. Amidst these more typical elements found in this type of death metal are some fabulous guitar solos that more than a few times reminded me of Death. The grace of the solos provide a flavorful contrast between themselves and the rumbling no-frills rhythmic elements of the songs "

Fans of Brutal Death Metal mixed with Black metal overtones cannot go wrong here.......A necessity period !

Abramelin - Deadspeak (2000)

1. Pleasures
2. Your Casualty
3. Waste
4. Bleeding Hearts
5. The Germ Factory
6. Flesh Furnace
7. Plague

Origin - Australia
Style - Death Metal

" 2nd (and sadly last) album for the band. There's no one particular band Abramelin sounds like, but they mix all of the sounds of the early 90s death metal pioneers, much in the same way Bloodbath has tried to capture the classic sounds of old school death metal. The production is good, perhaps a tiny bit fuzzy, but the guitar sound is really chunky, the palm muting really slugs your gut. The drums are done with a drum machine, but you may not notice that on your first listen. It's not that the drum sound is particularly organic (it isn't), it's just that the drums were obviously programmed by someone who knows how to write drum music. Many drum machines are setup very simply, with almost no fills, whereas the drumming on this album has all of the fills, tricks and flair of a real drummer (note: I have since been told that drum parts were written by Blood Duster drummer Rizzo) "

" Vocals are midrange growling. The thing that really makes this CD though are the riffs. Every song on the album has at least one riff that just makes me jump out of seat, yell "fuck ya" and then sends me off searching for something to slam into. Spectacular material, it's so sad that the band dissolved after this release. This CD is really hard to find, but it is so worth the money "

" Brilliant 3rd album of Death Metal that benefits greatly from flawless production and technically adept musicanship. Brutal, but complex song structures. One of the oldest and greatest Death Metal bands Poland has ever known "

" Severely under-rated....but easily in the same league as Vader,Decapitated etc."

" Fast and really aggressive Death Metal, allways on the highest technical level is what you can hear on Suffocated In Slumber "

This band deserves wider recognition !
