Style - Black/Death Metal
" One of the original Swedish Death metal bands, The first version of Tiamat was formed in 1988 by mastermind Johan Edlund. Initially called Treblinka, the teen aged Edlund soon realized the commercial limitations of that name and re-christened the band Tiamat "
" Tiamat's first album, Sumerian Cry, features raw Black/Death metal...Now some say Black?...Listen carefully and you hear plenty of nuances of the early Black scene..Bathory,Samael,Mayhem. However it was recorded at Sunlight and has that buzzsaw guitar sound we all came to love "
" The cryptic synthesizer of the instrumental title track soon gives way to the band's brutal buzzsaw guitars and vocalist Hellslaughter's (Johan Edlund's) gruff screaming and growls. Still, Tiamat focuses on solid riffs and varying tempos instead of all-out speed (except on "Evilized" and "The Malicious Paradise" -- these are pretty much all speed), obtaining especially interesting results on "Apothesis of Morbidity" and "Sumerian Cry (Part 2)."
This is an early form of Death Metal..That's for sure..And after what Tiamat morphed into later..I personally will take this any day of the week !
