" Get ready for this.....This is some crazy shit here.... These guys play progressive death metal while still retaining the primal agression and discordant sounds of old-school death metal mixed with jazz, punk,Doom, psychedelic guitar and everything in-between. I feel like Im trippin on shrooms or should be! "

" I cannot say anything more..Or tell you that they sound like another band..Cause they dont...For those into wacky,Lunatic inspired Death Metal....Maybe Some Disharmonic Orchestra....Drink up,Smoke up,Shoot up...Do whatever it is you do....And crank this up ! "

" Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm is one of those records that you need to turn out the lights..Put your headphones on..And trip out on the sounds.....Truly Epic stuff here !

4. Forlorn Luminary
5. Stones And Stocks
6. Tracer Bullet Falling Star
7. Scrupulum
8. Broke
9. Scoffer Tragedian
10. The Mime

Origin - Russia
Style - Progressive Death Metal

" Third album from this most excellent progressive death metal band from Russia "

" These guys bring us a very consistent release, providing inspiration for musicians and showing that you can be progressive without losing good song writing. The album has a quite brutal thick sound, but shows very subtle progressive elements really well. This is because the production is marvellous. Each instrument can be picked out very well, pay close attention to the bass in particular, it's great! If you're tired of all the brutal death metal bands or the predictability of some progressive bands out there. Check this out.I always hear people saying, progressive metal is boring, this proves the opposite "

Phenomenal stuff with some truly amazing riffs, 'Equivoke' recalls an updated, darker version of the most technical albums by bands like Obliveon and Loudblast...&...Theory In Practice

Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow (1994)

1. Twilight
2. Of Darksome Origin
3. Blood-Colored
4. Silent
5. Black Tears
6. Elegy
7. Velvet Dreams
8. Enter Chaos
9. The Sinner and the Sadness
10. Song of Sirens

Origin - Sweden

Style - Progressive Death Metal

" Unlike the Gothenburg scene dominated by bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, Edge of Sanity led by Dan Swano was a band that stuck more to the roots of American death metal combining it with Swano's musical vision, which is putting as much emphasis on melody as possible. Furthermore his songwriting refuses to compromise stylistically as he was deeply influenced by 70's and 80's prog rock (speaking of which, his solo album Moontower is possibly his greatest work to date). Dan's indepedent-minded approach to creating original compositions along with cerebral lyrics suggest that Edge of Sanity was definitely a much better band compared to their contemporaries. It's a shame they went unnoticed by many death metal fans until their masterpiece Crimson which unfortunately was written when the band members were on bad terms with each other. This eventually would led to Dan's departure in 1997 and we wouldn't hear another EOS album featuring him on vocals for more than five years "

" Back to Purgatory Afterglow... I consider this one a perfect transition album from the band's older American death metal style to their more prog-driven motives. Musically this album shows a lot of potential growth and maturity in the way that it balances power, anger, lyrical depth, and musical complexity almost perfectly. Considering that Dan was only 21 when he wrote this album, this is a great piece of work. The sharp intelligence, clear vision, and genuine warmth in every song on this album proves that Purgatory Afterglow is a sadly overlooked offering from one of the most underrated (yet amazing) death metal bands ever "

11. Lack of Compehension (Death Cover)

" This german super-group put this record out themselves..then landed the opening slot for Suffocation's european tour...alot in a short time. But when the band is consisting of Necrophagist,Pestilence,Black Horizon's members one can expect something great....or can we? "

" Fuken eh right !.....These guys are in the technical mold of Pestilence,Atheist, and of course the mighty Death !....And get it done right! Now they are signed to Relapse records and are recording their second album.....I for one cannot wait to see what this unit has in store for us"

4. Inner Ground (previously unreleased)

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Progressive Death Metal

" Classic single released on Thrash records in 1990 on black/white vinyl"

" This was their second recording...and my favorite !....what you get is fast-paced death metal in the Nihilist,Carnage vein but a bit more technical..The vocals are Matti Kärki of Dismember fame. This was produced by the mastermind Tomas Skogsberg so you know that you can expect quality sound "

" This is another piece of Swedish Death Metal History!.....And quite different from other bands at the time............

In Mourning - Shrouded Divine (2008)

1. The Shrouded Divine
2. Amnesia
3. In The Failing Hour
4. By Others Considered
5. Grind Denial
6. The Art Of A Mourning Kind
7. The Black Lodge
8. Past October Skies

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Progressive Melodic Death Metal

" After five demos,Swedish new-comers In Mourning have released their debut album on aftermath music. And a sweet slice of scandanavian metal it is. In Mourning contains the same drummer - Christian Netzell of already reviewed Volturyon (search the site)A spectacular Death Metal release that is still in regular rotation on my car stereo. This record "shrouded divine" is a completely different animal all together....with the music generally following a pattern of dark, moody, death-influenced metal, interspersed with melancholy acoustic detours and instrumental sections, all infused with a general 'progressive' vibe"

" Some opethian influences do exist...especially in the vocal department as well as some Swallow The Sun melancholic passages.Thrown into the mix is some faster Dark Tranquillity type riffing and you have a quality, original release in front of you. In Mourning have managed to infuse all these influences without copying said bands...creating a release with melody, variety, cohesion and pacing all in the right place "

" So while this record may sound familiar in certain parts..the sum of it all : with strong musicianship and song writing makes for a Top Notch listen!

7. Storm Warning
8. Messengers

" Ok....Here is some Polyrhythmic Progressive Metal...and it is done with the highest amount of professionalism. Think Pantera meets Meshuggah with a modern touch. Harsh screaming vocals and clean choruses. This is their 3rd full length after the rather disappointing (drawing circles) They are back on track with this one. Cynic and Athiest are obviously influences also so you get the progressive thing.

6. On The Way Home
7. Shine Of Consolation
8. Sadness And Strength
9. A Step Closer
10. An Old Man And A Child
11. Walking In The Garden Of Ma'at

Origin - Czech Republic
Genre - Progressive/Brutal Death Metal

"Technical and occasionally Progressive Death Metal with light Grind touches" is what you'd have to call this music, but you know what? Fuck such labels; what's in a name after all?

""Elvenefris" is one of these albums of which I can in good conscience say that there probably hasn't been anything like this, and neither will there be anytime soon. Of course there have been albums that made the listener's jaw drop due to their sheer brutality and the musicians' technical skill. Of course there have been albums that enchant you with magical melodies and turn minutes into seconds. However, I can't remember any album that combined these two elements as seamlessly as "Elvenefris" does. Not only that, but the Egyptian overtones along with some of The greatest fucking drumming I've ever heard.

If you havent heard this guys, I highly recommend everyone to give them a try. They will amaze you....Take your time and absorb all of it.......

Edge of Sanity - Crimson II (2003)

2. Incantation
3. Passage of Time
4. The Silent Threat
5. Achilles Heel
6. Covenant of Souls
7. Face to Face
8. Disintegration
9. Aftermath
1 song (43 min) 9 chapters-44 parts

Origin - Sweden
Genre - Progressive Death Metal

"What else can be said about the legendary Dan Swano...man of so much musical genius"

"Crimson II picks up where its predecessor left off. It just takes a different path musically to express itself. This is 100% Dan Swano, the compositions borrow elements from 70's prog rock which is indispensibale to Dan's musical vision. The album tends to sound like Moontower(solo cd) in some points, but still has the classic Edge of Sanity stamp all over it. The amazing riffing, rich melodies, opaque lyrics, angry vocals, great musicianship--everything"

All in all, this is a fitting goodbye from Edge of Sanity to the world. Dan Swano's musical genius has never dissapointed yet, and it definitely does not with this album.
