Dawn - Apparition - Demo (1992)

1. In the Depths of My Soul
2. Incantation of Unholyness
3. Spawn of Evil
4. Thirst of the Dead

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Here's an old one.....Yes I know Dawn later were a Melodic Black Metal band in the vein of Dissection....But dont forget even Jon was in Thrash then Death metal bands first. This is actually their second demo..But first produced by the legend Dan Swano "

" This has to be one of the better produced demo's of the day....With a clear sound and Henke Forss(In Flames,Funeral Feast) using a much lower growl than his later records. These 4 tracks are similar blasting Death Metal with some melodic elements..But much more evil riffing than the majority of most demo's....Check out 'Thirst For The Dead' to see what I mean....Cult shit here !"

Interment - Forward to the Unknown - Demo (1992)

1. Where Death Will Increase
2. Human Dissection
3. A Waste Of Good Suffering
4. Forward To The Unknown

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

'Intro' is seperate in rip

" The year...1992....Interment contact Tomas Skogsberg and book Sunlight Studios for a new demo...But it turns out Skogsberg has booked too many bands at the same time so the band moves to Gorysound Studios and work with Dan Swanö instead...Not a bad idea in my book "

" This is the bands 2nd demo and there are differences from the first...This time the songs were  much faster and the guitars more downtuned..And like the first demo..Interment sends this to many labels..And no one signs them (Idiot labels) "

" Enough of a history lesson...What we have here is another classic Swedish Death Metal demo from the day....Heavy and brutal..Just the way we like it !.....Interesting note: All the demo's are now found in one compilation on Morbid Wrath/Necroharmonic records...I suggest you get out there and get yourself one of these...Comes with cool liner notes and a video too "

Dont forget the new FULL LENGTH coming in april !...One of my most anticipated releases this year for sure !...Should be devastating !

Therion - Beyond Sanctorum (1992)

1. Future Consciousness
2. Pandemonic Outbreak
3. Cthulhu
4. Symphony Of The Dead
5. Beyond Sanctorum
6. Enter The Depths Of Eternal Darkness
7. Illusions Of Life
8. The Way
9. Paths
10. Tyrants Of The Damned
11. Cthulhu (demo version)
12. Future Consciousness (demo version)
13. Symphony Of The Dead (demo version)
14. Beyond Sanctorum (demo version)

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" ......Beyond Sanctorum, the bands second official release utilized the same basic formula that old school greats Nihilist employed. Buzz saw power chord riffing, muffled growling, a driving rhythm section, and the simplistic yet super effective hooks that would go on and influence many a young band are proudly executed here "

" This is where the band started to experiment with clean voice, symphonic elements etc...That would later become their calling card...But don't misunderstand !......This is Death Metal !.....And some of the best written in 1992"

" The eleven minute epic “The Way” is easily the highlight of the record with rumbling bass and guitar riffing complementing the textural dynamics of middle eastern flavored melodies....Truly awesome...."

And so Therion went on to make alot of crap records...But back in the day and still now...This one is great...Period.

1. Chemical Warfare
2. Infected Organs
3. Masses to Reveal

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" Some serious Death/Thrash from early pioneers Belsebub "

" What set this group apart from the rest of the bands at the time...Was the use of Dual Vocals....One low growl mixed with a higher scream...We can only wish these guys would have went on and put out a full length "

" One of the best single's of the day...On black vinyl....500 copies only !....You can still catch one on the bay every once in a while "

Sorrow - Hatred and Disgust (1992)

1. Insatiable
2. Forced Repression
3. Illusion of Freedom
4. Human Error
5. Separative Adjectives
6. Unjustified Reluctance

Origin - USA
Style - Death/Doom Metal

" Sorrow formed in 1991 in Ney York city and quickly were signed by Roadrunner records...They released an Ep and this their only full length "

" The quartet was extremely unique amongst their 90s Death Metal peers, in that they had a strong political message to much of their lyrical content, rather than growling about the typical hacking people up and molesting corpses. Musically, Hatred and Disgust is an interesting mixture of crawling doom and what could be considered slowwwwwed down Death Metal"

" Sorrow play Winter-like ultra oppressive Death/Doom-metal. Sorrow's music is filled with a thick and oppressive guitar sound and gut wrenching grunts. Musically, they come very close to Winter and were probably the second band after Winter to dare and play such oppressive, unnerving style of Death/Doom-metal. A very bleak, emotionless oppression runs throughout their songs "

If you have heard Winter...You will dig this !.....If Not?.....Listen and learn....Music does not have to be fast to be good.....This is a pre-cursor to todays Death/Doom bands coming out of Finland mostly.....Crushing..Indeed !

Centinex - Subconscious Lobotomy (1992)

1. Blood On My Skin
2. Shadows Are Astray
3. Dreams Of Death
4. Orgy In Flesh
5. End Of Life
6. Bells Of Misery
7. Inhuman Dissections Of Souls
8. The Aspiration
9. Until Death Tear Us Apart

Origin - Sweden
Style - Death Metal

" This is Centinex's debut...Recorded at Studio Sunlight July 1992 Produced and mixed by Tomas Skogsberg and Centinex Co-produced by Fred Estby(Dismember) Engineered by Tomas Skogsberg "

" Centinex never got to be big like other Swedish bands...Entombed,Dismember etc. But it wasnt for lack of trying..On this their first record...You will get lots of mid tempo thrash beats...throaty vocals that are between a growl and a hoarse shout, grinding guitars, and some doomy sections with pounding double bass for flavor...The only thing lacking was the inaudible bass "

" This might not have been in the league with "Like An Ever-Flowing Stream" and "Clandestine "....But it easily fits in with the Second Tier of great acts such as Desultory,Goddefied, etc. "

Another piece of Swedish History !

Channel Zero - Channel Zero (1992)

1. No Light (At the End of their Tunnel)
2. Tales of Worship
3. The Pioneer
4. Succeed or Bleed
5. Never Alone
6. Inspiration to Violence
7. Painful Jokes
8. Save me
9. Animation
10. Run With The Torch

Origin - Belgium
Style - Thrash Metal

" Cnannel Zero from Brussels, Belgium were considered by some to be the next Metallica when this album came out...Even though it was a few years late "

" This band started very strongly with their debut, summarizing all that was good from the 80's thrash scene. The style is probably closer to the Bay Area acts: Metallica,Exodus,Testament. the opener "No Light" thrashes without mercy, fast and aggressive, and this is the predominant tone of the album. The guitar work is really good, with very sharp riffs, but without any technical pretensions. "Succeed Or Bleed" and "Inspiration to Violence" are detours into a heavier, slower song-writing, the latter coming with some cool stylish riffage. "Animation" introduces an angrier sound, which would later find its complete realisation on the band's later works, where the guys embraced the modern thrash idea, and their later efforts show no signs of any will to be something more than mere Pantera-clones "

I have to say....Personally...I think this is THE most underrated Thrash Album of all time....That's saying alot......Just get it...And let the 50+ min of Thrash Kick your ass !

How many out there..Ever heard of these guys?

Assorted Heap - Mindwaves (1992)

1. Coloured eyes
2. Holy ground
3. What I confess
4. Nice to beat you
5. Mindwaves
6. Dealing with dilemma
7. Cardial sin
8. Hardcore incorrigible
9. Artificial intelligence

Origin - Germany
Style - Thrash Metal

" Assorted Heap was a German thrash metal band that existed in the early 90s. They were signed to the label 1MF (1 More Flop Records) and supposedly their best selling band. In 1991 they opened up for Paradise Lost. After two albums and the disappearance of their label they broke up "

" With their second album Assorted Heap created something of a minor masterpiece. While ' The Experience Of Horror'(Debut) was a bit simple and rough around the edges, Mindwaves shows some great progress in the band's style. Better produced than the debut, Mindwaves sports a thick and heavy sound "

" Musically the development between the two releases is quite evident almost immediately - while the songs still remain fast and heavy stompers, they have more hooks and memorable riffs than ever. This album was one of the last great Thrash Albums during a time when Death Metal reigned supreme..And Thrash mostly died off "

With its marvellous dark atmosphere, Mindwaves is nothing short of outstanding !

Torchure - Beyond the Veil (1992)

1. The Veil Of Sanity
2. In His Grip
3. Abysmal Malevolence
4. Mortal At Last (instrumental)
5. Resort To Mortality
6. Genocidal Confessions
7. Apathetic
8. Depressions
9. A Vortex Of Thoughts (instrumental)
10. Beyond The Veil

Origin - Germany
Style - Death Metal

" German band caught between doom metal, speed metal and the early strains of death metal that despite its silly name made two quality albums before disappearing in tragedy "

" On their debut 'Beyond The Veil'....Torchure made an album that bordered Death Metal with Doom Metal....palm-muted riffs, sudden stops and starts, a melding of dynamic intensity to balance melodic playing with guttural blasts of rhythm riffing -- with distinctive central melodies that kept the tracks memorable. Songs often begin with a keyboard or lead-picked melodic foreshadowing, and then dive into slamming violent decomposition riffs that would be equally at home in Malevolent Creation or Asphyx "

" Heavy, brutal, Death Metal. Check out "The Veil of Sanity" and "Mortal at Last." Both are hauntingly ominous. The rest of the tracks are more Death, yet all are memorable and the vocals are bestial and raw, but also show a range of emotion similar to Barney (Napalm Death) combined with Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost). I can find no real flaws with the production or in the songs.

This is a must for everyone into the old way...

4. Flesh Parade
5. Unknown
6. Method Of Murder
7. Agony Of Rebirth
8. Homicidal Entrails
9. My Dangling Corpse

Origin - USA

Style - Death Metal

" Accidental Suicide was formed in 1989 by some friends in Milwaukee,Wisconsin..And released a couple of demo's before their only full-length 'Deceased' in 1992"

" Accidental Suicide is a blend of dark death metal with a mildly gory edge to them. They sound a lot like Incantation, with a hint of Suffocation, but a lot slower, more brutal approach.....A solid slice of the genre at the time "

" Bands like this came and went....But their legacy lives on through their recordings....Fans of the old sound should check it out !

4. Doomed
5. Spiritual Immolation
6. Cross the Styx
7. Compulsory Resignation
8. Corridors to the Abyss
9. Putrefying Remains
10. Epoch of Denial
11. Perpetual Damnation
12. Outro

Origin - Netherlands
Style - Death Metal

" Sinisters debut full length "

" Consisting of 10 crushing songs (plus an intro and outro with guest performance by producer Alex Krull(Atrocity), who also laid some backing vocals on the title track), the album combined all the finest ingredients to form a brutal masterpiece "

" The music was clearly inspired by Possessed (especially the choppy and thrash-like riffs) but it also featured a lot of other influences, ranging from old-school death metal to grindcore (that’s why contemporary reviewers often called the album a mixture of Suffocation and Vomitory). The true highlight of the LP, however, was Mike van Mastrigt and his extremely deep and brutal growling, which, combined with diabolical lyrics about the occult, turned tracks such as “Putrefying Remains”, “Spiritual Immolation” and “Compulsory Resignation” into instant classics "

Sinister have had a fine career....And this was the start of it all...

6. Pacifistic Death
7. Preparing Your End
8. Killing My Wrath

" Krabathor is a death metal band from Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic that was founded by Petr "Christopher" Krystof in 1984. In 1991, a demo was recorded resulting in a deal for two albums with Monitor Productions. The first album was released in 1992 as Only Our Death Is Welcome... "

" Only Our Death starts out with a dark sinister opener...Then your hit with a Death/Thrash bomb... Basically this album is technical Death metal with a touch of thrash...A damn heavy production and equally heavy songs "

" Voice comes at you in deep growls and hellish shouts....Musically: Technical and melodic solo's and a diversity in the tracks makes for an entertaining listen...And while Krabathor would go on to make many terrific records...Its cool to see where they came from at the start..."

12. Demon Seed (live)(Bonus)
13. Erase (live)(Bonus)
14. Goddess In Black (live)(Bonus)

Origin - Netherlands
Style - Death Metal

" Formed in 1989, Dutch band Gorefest managed to carve a niche for themselves in an increasingly overcrowded death metal genre, making their debut on the underground demo scene with two tapes, Tangled In Gore and Horrors In A Retarded Mind. After Mindloss(Classic), they secured a contract with Nuclear Blast Records and released False. Gorefest's material was morbidly metaphysical, and at their best they managed to combine melodic and inventive riffs with an abrasive edge "

" While Gorefest already showed their potential on "Mindloss", they were able to blossom to a magnificently unique band on 2nd album "False".The brutality combined with clever song writing and exquisite musical skills culminated in a true classic album! "

Yes, there is truly nothing negative to say about this absolute classic album, even 17 years after it's release! ......Crushing Death Metal !

Miasma - Changes (1992)

1. Baphomet
2. Ancient Rhymes
3. Melting of Imagining Existence
4. Schizophrenia?
5. Drowning In Blood
6. The Prayer
7. Morbid Knocking
8. Stillbirth

Origin - Austria
Style - Death Metal

" Miasma from (Vienna) Austria formed in 1990 with intentions of playing dark Deathly Metal "

" Changes is their only full length...And remains today on my playlist of my favorite 100 or so all time Death Metal Records. Possibly one of the most fitting names ever picked out for a band, because that's exactly what this record sounds like, a miasma. The guitar tone is so heavy and so thick..... you could cut the damn thing with a knife and it would still envelop your eardrums. The Miasma dudes didn't rest on such a great guitar tone though. What you get here is some really jagged song structures and really deep, brutal vocals "

Fans of the more eccentric styles of death metal will eat this up and with damn good reason.....Classic shit in my opinion !

6. A Dark Cloud Arises
7. In the Misty Morning
8. Reality isn't Disappeared

10. Crown Waits the Immortal
11. John.3.16

Origin - Finland
Style - Death Metal

" Purtenance released one EP and then one full length before splitting up in 1992 "

" This release shows a lot of musical maturation form the Purtenance Avulsion (Earlier) days, but it still shows a lot of energy. They developed a style of mixing heavy sludgy doom sections with faster death thrash sections. Purtenance also managed to incorporate some melodic elements lacking from their early days. This release rips just as much as the Purtenance Avulsion demo and the mix of Doom/Thrash/Death gives it a unique character "

" The slow murky parts of this album are everything that I look for in death metal, dark brooding, and filthy....Almost bordering on doom metal "

Origin - Netherlands
Style - Technical Death Metal

" This is P.I.s Debut album on the little known West Virginia Records "

" The best description for this album would be: Death metal in a hybrid style that includes crazy rhythms, such that incomplete rhythmic patterns provide a continuity through our anticipation of the final beat established through contrast of offbeats as necessary, and sounds as a result somewhere between Exhorder and Malevolent creation, with verse riffs that resemble later work from Death.....Did ya get all that? "

" This was the bands most straight forward album..Probably leaning in the Death camp the most. Fairly sterile sounding...Technical...Low emotion Death Metal played with style "
